PLN: Bishopthorpe Lane N.E.R - Plan 1

So after some manic days at work feeling to tired to do anything I finally got to play a bit with Templot and have firstly done the non 3 way version but feel this is not as elegant as the 3 way one that I roughly tried out, so some more playing with is needed to make this fit the area unless I go for the 3way challenge. It all needs tidying up and the timbers shoving etc, but the starting point has been made. Comments on any possible improvements greatfully accepted.

I have which will be a touch over 4' 6" or 1350mm for the modernists out there :D with a bit more on to cover the fiddle cassettes.

Today I acquired a piece of MDF so I can now build points on a nice flat surface and it will be big enough to fit an 1:8 slip on and with an off-cut I plan to make a test track that I try out locos in both DC and DCC and which can double up as a photo opportunity location.

I would stretch this by another 6 to 8 inches so that you can put this section up on and run this section on it's own without using cassettes if you want a quick play. This extra length will allow you to use the point's at each end with a loco and a couple of wagons for running round and a little shunting fun.

Speaking as a modernist ;) it looks good...if you can't stretch your mdf board as Kris suggested...then could you condense, tighten it to allow his suggestion?

Getting a few paper templates/ completed turnouts on the board will help it along nicely I feel...

Thanks Kris and Pete,

Comments noted, at the moment I am trying to keep it to a manageable size so could stretch to 5' but would want to go much over that. The idea is to have something I can 'play' on most of the time. @Kris, I love shunting  so that would be a good idea to have the run round with space for loco and wagons.

@Pete yes I think this is the way forward bit of compression in the plan and a bit of expansion in the board  I am going to have a play with templates etc at the weekend when I have a bit more time. Thanks for the advice chaps..

I liked the previous plan better: To me it looks odd with the loop continuing through a goods yard that is split in half.

Hi Rich

I have elongated the loop as I have changed the 3way to the 2 separate points, I'll have a go at doing the 3way tonight to see how it looks as like you I do like the first plan.

If you can have one siding facing the opposite way it makes for more interesting shunting as you have to run round now and then.
