First public appearance at Taunton

The first part-finished section of the viaduct made its inaugural public appearance at the RMWeb Taunton bash yesterday, including some powered running across it for the first time.

Many thanks to John for all his hard work in getting it to this stage, not without its trials and tribulations, and to Pete for his help yesterday. It was gratifying to receive some positive feedback and encouragement based on what we had done so far, but also a reminder on how much more there was still to do!

Here are some pics though - it isn't finally glued up, so there is a little misalignment highlighted by the last photo, and a slight droop at one end which will be fixed by packing at the base before final and permanent assembly.

No surprises here - it's simply as stunning in the partial-completion as it has looked in the conceptual and component phases. Delighted it's had an airing, so others might appreciate the enormity of your task, which was never in doubt here.

Well done, chaps!

Thanks Ian - always good to have an objective external view on what we've done :D . Sometimes we're so close to it all we see are the faults and imperfections!

Looks amazing, really have got to see this in the flesh! Makes me rather annoyed not to be living in Devon any more, would have loved to see this progress up close!

That said, if you need another P4 'Bell I was looking for an excuse to buy one.......

Will certainly have to see it running with some modern stock at some point!

Was showing Helen the photos of the viaduct last night (she was suitably impressed) which should aid in getting a pass to go and have a look at the bridge some time! She did start making comments along the lines of this period being much more interesting, Starting to get a feeling that my next layout will have to be a similar period in order to get permission to build in the garage in our next house.....

Thanks Rich - we will in due course have all three 5BEL units I'm sure, but don't let that stop you getting one! :)
