Preparations for printing (more designs for Shapeways)

Hi everyone,

It has been a while since I have reported on project Victoria Bridge, progress is steady, with regular sprinkings of scenic bits and pieces which is building up the layers and making everything seem more 'natural'... I'd post some pictures tonight, but the glue is drying and it is currently speckled in half dry PVA blobs.

In the meantime, some further experiments with Google Sketchup. You might recall my little '813' terrier based saddle tank, well the prototype has gone away for a new, finescale, life in and around Highbury colliery. A 'Mark II' version will appear soon with some small design tweaks mainly centred around a better fit on the basic Dapol chassis, watch this space!

Also soon to go 'to print' are:

A GWR boiler. This has two potential uses (though with the standardisation of GWR components, there are no doubt more!) The first is as a component for http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blog/220/entry-9038-ally-pally-the-results/ (So long as the printed results are up to the standard of Julia's etchings!) and also, as a 'mini me' version, a 1:450 scale (unpowered-propelled by a carriage) City of Truro. Again, watch this space, I will be watching with particular interest...

Progress is creaking along slowly with the design for the new 'face' for Victoria Bridge... I avoid rivet counting as a rule, but I will suspend this tendency for this one.. every rivet will be there!

And finally, I have re-designed my printed 'core' for the rather fine etched GWR inspection saloon kit from Etched Pixels. The odd raised floor is owing to my design using a shortened (old) Farish Class 101 centre car chassis. The finished model will represent a carriage added as a private saloon to a modern SVR train, with a party going on inside complete with printed bottle of wine and sandwiches...

Will update with pictures of scenery soon!

Nice work Will! Can't wait to see the printed boiler paired with Missy's etched chassis.

Question about the bridge, are you just printing the outside beams, or all of the internal ones too?

Tom,

I look forward to seeing the results in the flesh. Your 813 tank looked really good and shows the potential of 3d printing (and Google Sketch-Up).

Ah, bridge wise, it will just be a 'fascia' of a couple of mm thickness to stick to the front of the bridge. I could (and probably should) redo the entire bridge structure as a print, but for now, just a makeover will leave more printing budget spare for rolling stock, and my 'innovation challenge' project.

Is the boiler a collaboration with Julia or something you are doing for yourself to aid construction?

City of Truro in T gauge... I will watch this space!

I recommend more than one bottle of wine for the party in the inspection saloon. It's not clear yet how many people are attending but...
