Tender for the 2-8-2 continued

RedgateModels

Some progress on the tender. Basic chassis is soldered up and ready for pickups, dragbox and NEM pocket sorting.

I've also been detailing the body, adding wire handrails and brake handles. I've also added the brass strips on the top of the coal space and fixed in a section from a scrap tender to replace the broken corner of the top lip at the front of the coal space (see where I've sanded down etc in the second photo - the replacement bit is black plastic too)

I want to produce the rear tender steps/platforms that were fitted to later versions of this tender and also the tool tunnel in the coal space then it's about done for the body - apart from painting black and lining out that is wink.gif

EDIT:

Tender ladder soldered up last night - boy is that a tricky job, good thing I had the +1.25 readers on laugh.gif

Hi What made you go for 93000, is there some evidence that this is the numbers that would have been used?, I went for 91000 for my version.

erm, you mean the 2-8-0 that appeared in HM Sept 2008? - actually 5 were planned in the 1956 build plan numbered 93000-93004, they originally planned to build up to 53 2-8-0s (taken from The Book of the BR Standards :2 by Derry, page 74)

If you are referring to the 2-8-2 that I am currently building that will be numbered 91000 as it was a precursor to the 9Fs numbered in the 92xxx series biggrin.gif

Hi no, i was meaning the 2-8-2 which is good as that means i used the right numbering. What livery are you going for i went for unlined BR Black, where as the second for a friend was in lined BR green?

Mine will be mixed traffic lined black, which should look nice and unusual on a Britannia body laugh.gif It will also be named "R. A. RIDDLES" the plates alone for this project will cost in excess of £20 blink.gif

look forward to seeing it, i too went for the Hornby brit body. My main problem was the etch for the frames was the first i ever did and getting it to run was a real pain. The third which is only part built has a revised chassis, and etched body which is part built.

wow, etched frames, mine are going to be hacked carefully crafted out of PCB material - I've got this mad idea for a split chassis arrangement with pickups soldered direct to the frames behind the wheels ......

Guess why I'm spending so much time faffing with the tender laugh.gif laugh.gif

Being my first ever etched effort the drawing was not very good, Grainge and Hodder were very patient with me. I learnt very quickly that everything has got to be perfect to run. I will see if i can find the part built frames and show you how they look (if i can find them in the garage having just moved)

These split frames look hard work, so I will watch how you do it with keen interest and then maybe have a go.

I'd like to see your chassis sometime if you can find it. The PCB material is a bit left field and if it don't work out I'll end up just using some brass sheet, but hey, I've got loads lying around so it's worth a go ....

If you think your drawings were lacking, see my chassis "comic" a few posts back, fag packet sketch does not cover it laugh.gif laugh.gif
