2mm

Just built a 2mm pannier using the new etched chassis. It works! It works even better with a decent controller, I don't have any DC controllers left, other than an ancient Powermaster, so I connected a DCC chip between the controller and track.

It works really well I'm surprised to say. It isn't DCC itself, as the only layouts I can try it on are DC only.

Does it look like there is room for a chip inside the loco? I was thinking of using DC for 2mm but most reports seem to indicate better running with DCC.

Oh yes, there is a surprising amount of room. Just have a look at some of the smaller locos, a pannier is positively roomy. I saw a chip inside an 04 diesel, now that was small.

A challenge before Camrail!

Appolgies if this has been discussed elsewhere but why the change of scale? Is the pannier just a little folly or are there greater layout ambitions?!

Looking to the future, my current layout Clutton is getting nearly 30 years old. So where next? It's a big layout, so something smaller. BLTs don't do anything for me. So to get more in, means going down a scale. Thing is, can I build in 2mm? This project is about seeing what I can do and can I make it work for me.

It's amazing what can be left out.
