  1. Centre section cladding completed. Some more work still needed here and there, but I think that we're gradually getting it how we want it. Some expermintation has been done with the primary undercoating as it's important to get the base colour just right when finishing with light airbrush misting. The real thing is like a 'patchwork quilt' of colours. Light browns, oranges, greens, limescale staining, even with engineers blue brick in repaired areas and even individual differently coloured bricks. In the 'real thing/model' argument one has to be careful not to overdo the colouration and contrasts. Still we'll see when we get to that stage! Classic view! Approximate ground contour.

  2. Sorry if you've seen some of the CAD pics in the 3d printing section, but for my loyal reader here's the latest 3d CAD nearly finished, couple of tweaks but 99% there, a GC long car for the Grimsby and Immingham, These were supposedly the longest first generation trams in the UK, supposedly 2 lower saloons on a railway type underframe, here's a great pic of no 14 as preserved at Crich, one of the few never to have run there, 50 years after the G&I finished and it entered preservation, pic by Paul Derrick. And the CAD pics Meanwhile some real modeling has taken place on the extension to 'Grime St', originally the corner plot was going to use an altered Walthers Merchants Row 2, however the Walthers kit for Argosst Booksellers which I've had on order has recently turned up so that's being altered to suit the site, pitched roof fitted etc, it's a pretty big building and thoughts turned to what it could actually be, having mooched around various places I came up with the idea of using it as a Mechanics Institute, that great bastion of Victorian 'better yourselves' ideal, rarely modelled but pretty common in reality. As you can see from the pics it quite dominates the corner which is what I wanted. Much still to do but hopefully you get the idea. Work also continues on 301/LCC1 shown on the extension terminal stub, I hope this shot gives an idea of what it's meant to look like eventually. And the coming next month bit, well tucked away on page 654 of the current (August) Railway Modeller is the blurb for the Sept edition, and Convert car 359 and Tower car 2 can be glimpsed in all their glory(!) in one of Steve Flints excellent photos, just hope he spells my name right next time! And for the odd one or two of you who may not have seen it Paul Burkitt-Gray shot some brilliant video of Grime St at members day, he's stuck it on here but I thought I'd link it up here too for anyone who's interested, Paul many thanks for the video, much better than I could do. http://vimeo.com/26102137

  3. As requested a few more pictures of Fen End Pit. The drag line is scratch built based on plans from a Ruston Bucyrus works manual I was given by a friend. First up a view of the entrance to the works as a Simplex 40S arrives with a train of sand from the pit. This is a view of the entire unloading end showing the tipping dock, unloading conveyor and the storage silos. And finally a shot of the unloading hopper with a skip just tipped. Hope you like them.
