  1. Thanks Mick, much appreciated, good luck with rest of 04/8 project . Cheers Phil.
  2. Nice work on the 04/8 Mick, could I trouble you for the sources of the chimney & dome? Looking forward to seeing the finished loco. Cheers Phil.
  3. Hi Stefan, not a GWR fan myself but she certainly is a stunner, great work . Cheers Phil.

Hi 31A, the AWS cylinder on the Hornby 61234 is just a tad over 2mm in diameter & 6mm long (quick measurements!). Cheers Phil.

Hi David, no probs, I've got 2 x 61138 as well, 138 was a Sheffield/Rotherham loco for approx 9 yrs (Darnall,Millhouses,Canklow) and a swift number change on the other to 61139, also a Darnall loco, will give all I want for now. Late crests will be added to these to make them contemporary with 61239 (all 3 shedded at Darnall in 1961). Cheers Phil.

Hi, 61249 'Fitzherbert Wright' was at Stratford then Parkeston Quay until 1959, she moved north to Sheffild Darnall May '59 (BR database). There are pics on Flickr, http://www.flickr.com/photos/64215236@N03/6386483519/ shows her at Stratford April '59 with same S/box door as 243, later pics I've seen, at Sheffield Midland in '64 with wider spaced hinge strapping on door (sorry no links). Have renumbered mine as 249 as she would have been at Darnall post 5/59, after removing fillets and fitting Fox plates. AWS box & cylinder need removing also, as no sign of AWS on '59 pic or the '64 pics. Cheers Phil.

Hi all, B1s at Rails same price, just ordered another  . Cheers Phil.
  9. A couple of interesting pics of 'strangers under the wires' appear in 'Great Central Mainline- North of Nottingham' (compiled by A.R.Kaye-Lowlander Publications). Class 17s D8616 & D8607 (Barrow Hill locos) heading thro' Woodhouse soon to be under the wires at Rotherwood, with coal for the Woodhead route (1964). Also A4 60014 'Silver Link' at Sheffield Victoria having arrived with a 'down special', ready for hand over to an EM2 (May 1956). Cheers Phil.
  10. Hi Phil & GN, 6858 Woolston Grange made it to Huddersfield thro' Nottingham & Sheffield on ex GCR metals on Sat. 15th Aug. 1964. Apparently taken off after fouling platforms near Penistone. The train would have passed thro' Woodhouse (Sheffield) en route, so given my liking of odd workings, guess who's got a Grange awaiting it's new plates! Great layout GN keep the pics coming , Cheers Phil.
  11. Hi John, if you can get your hands on an issue, there's an article in Scalefour News (Feb 2012) by Brian Self, about a quick upgrade of one of these. Apparently the Triang model is a scale 7' 6" short, but this compramise is entirely within the well section, making it fairly easy to lengthen. Hope this is of help. Regards Phil.
  12. If this appeared on a layout one could think it was an overcooked cliche ! four buses in all, the two (route no.s 23 & 32) on the bridge were stationary, it was a mid circular route staging point. The two to the right are at the terminus of the 52 route, the one to left of the lamp is in mid turn. The location is Woodhouse Station Sheffield C1988. Cheers Phil.
  13. Agreed, two pics I have found are in BR livery & one is a 3/4 view so the panelling is in relief, so not the Thompson variant. Both hauled by C13s.
  14. After looking further than the end of my nose I answered my own question! Gresley subs. did run in local trains around Sheffield, and indeed some were built at Cravens, there's a nice ex works photo in 'Sheffield Victoria to Chesterfield Central' by Ken Grainger, of Lav. Comp. no. 63914 outside the works. Phil.
  15. Am trying to find an excuse to have a rake of these, however I can't as yet find any photos of them on ex GCR metals around Sheffield. Were Gresley suburbans ever used in the area? If not I'll have to change history as they're very nice . Cheers Phil.
