I do think that perhaps the repeatable brick patterning can cause problems over large unbroken areas - moire - which shows up more in 2mm than others, the Metcalfe reproductions are better in this respect. But certainly the design construction is far superior.

Glad you think it might be of use to you. I think it's probably the best bit of DCC kit I have bought. Lots of people use them with Raspberry Pi bits to make standalone DCC systems. I am now looking at this via the new Pi 400 but I'm a bit of a numpty with all this kind of stuff. I just ride the tailcoats of others....  There is a thread in the DCC discussions section. Thanks to all the efforts of many the open source JMRI kicks most others into touch given all that is possible with it.

Don't skimp on decoders. Just get the budget Zimo's @ £20. MX617's. Then you'll start off with the best motor control and not waste money on second rate ones. If you have a laptop and are happy using it then for a controller get a Sprog2. (Try Coastal DCC for supplies of both or Sprog direct for the latter). Load JMRI and your away for about £60. If you have a smart phone then these can be used as wi-fi throttles with it. Possibly the cheapest way of doing it with the widest capability. Sprog + JMRI/Decoder Pro easily the best way of setting up decoders bar non whatever DCC system you use so the cost outlay is never a waste. ( The Sprog can be used as a decoder programmer or a command station).

When I had a similar experience some years back and my wife developed whiplash quite a few days afterwards and nothing initially the specialist said that was how it normally develops. As such insurance Co’s are usually wary of anybody who claims whiplash injury at the immediate time of the accident I.e. as they exit the vehicle.

If it is a write-off I hope you get what it costs to obtain a similar age replacement. Even though mine was just coming up to 3 years old I had to fight tooth and nail to get anywhere near what was needed, and then didn’t get it all. All they want to give is trade-in value at most. My wife’s whiplash injury compensation didn’t even make up the shortfall. Trust you may have better luck.

Probably would if the rods are decent enough, not too sloppy a fit on the crank pins. The biggest issue though is the too small coreless motor, which in the new EFE releases has apparently been replaced. But anything’s worth a try isn’t it.

Oh, that’s nice to know, and they are still going and in use. I presume these may be the pair of MR class 3 goods. I am sure I’ve seen another loco I made in a photo posted somewhere in the past. 

Yeah, this is part of the make everything past yesterday obsolete. I have an old iPod classic. Works as good as when new. But can’t be uploaded with new tunes/playlists unless an old version of itunes is used. And my (newish) 8+iPhone needs the latest version.....grrrr.
