  1. Right, list of Oakhill brews found http://www.beermad.org.uk/brewery/701 Interestingly Mendip Magic is one of them, you could always include the proof in the name too! Best Wishes Paul
  2. Nice work Chris! You could always name it after the name of the beer? Not enirely sure what the Oakhill Beer was called without Googling, but something like Mendip Magic or Mendip Gold may just work!!! Now how could you encorporate some of the other paraphinalia such as beer mats and bar towels? Perhaps you could put a bowl of peanuts ontop of the facia! B)
  3. Rob, I think Jim's the wrong person to joke about grandiose plans of extensions, besides we'd have to knock down you neighbours house to extend the railway room!
  4. That's some mighty fine bowling underway! Aussie bashers R us!

  5. Looking good Robin! I'm sure Chris would be more than happy to do further runs Tim! PM Robin if you want a bit more info, would look good on Callow Lane!
  6. Let the Aussie bashing continue, please don't rain!

In other news, I think my high level progress is catching up with you - I finally got the cutting paste out to bed in my hornblocks!

Good work! I think I said at the time but Shiney Sinks works as a good bedding in product as well as making it all nice and shiney!

  7. Blimey Adam I didn't realise you were old! Unfortunately I never got to see Hursley either and despite being only slightly older than Craig I remember the RM article extremely well and like most people here, Hursley is one of my all time favourite layouts and greatest inspirations. I did hear that Martyn has asperations to do an Isle of Wight layout, now that would be absoluetly mind blowing! Actually I got a years subscription for Christmas in 1990 and despite being 6 at the time this was probably the year that really defined my modelling inspirations! As well as Hursley, two other layouts from that year which are firmly stuck in my mind are Exbridge Quay and Henry Holdsworth's L&B based 16mm scale layout (Lynbridge?). In my oppinion, modelling techniques haven't actually improved much since then (albiet finer etches and laser cutting), where i feel the next step of finescale modelling is going is the dawn of the larger and more prototypically operated layouts. In real danger of contaminating this thread with a post that is aimed for the MRJ show thread, what i feel would be a real line up would be layouts currently being built Retford Birmingham New Street Steve Hall's latest creation Slattocks Southwark Bridge Barrow Road (Apologies I may be a little bias with this one, it would get me an exhibitors pass though! ) Prehaps even Andrew Jukes Kings Cross Along with the layouts already mentioned in this thread, together with a few corkers from the past/present Corris Bucks Hill Blackgill Steve Harris 2mm finscale layout (which i cant spell) Copenhagen Fields Chee Tor and of course North Shields, although if Grantham could make it, i'd much rather see Chris's stock amonst other ECML stock at speed!
  8. Looking good Rob! Have you already made the cuts for the board joints or are you doing this in situ? Right this better be my last look for today with D Day rapidly aproaching for me! :-)
  9. I hate revision, so many other things I could be doing! :-)

Thanks Welly! I've only just seen your posting but most appreciated all the same! Think i'm just about able to get back to modelling now!

  10. Great to see a bit more progress on this one Dave!
  11. Well we have photographic proof of a rare visit by an 8f!
  12. Whilst I was suppose to be completing paperwork last night I strangely found my self looking at coach formation's on the S&D, taking particular notice of those that were going to or coming from Bristol. Morgan I see what you mean about the majority of the trains coming from or going to North spliting at Mangotsfield Jn. The Bristol to Bournemouth would be an ideal rake to model. That said The Devonian would be superb! Now what excuse can we find for re-routing The Pines? Whilst all these silly idea's are racing around in our heads I'm currently awaiting a reply detailing the consists, diagram and coach numbers of the formations that traversed the S&D. Robin on the subject of agreements, didn't we also agree that you don't actually need to put the cars in your garage? Morgan, happy flying! See you later Robin!
  13. You're not wrong about you're tidyness Craig! Everytime I returned to my workbench I had to move everything back to where I'd so carefully placed it! Again thankyou for minding the bench whilst I had a chance to get a bite to eat and look round the show, it was hard work trying to kick you out so I could get my seat back however! It was good to see you too Dave, even if it was only briefly! Looking forward to the return visit of your 9f, with the progress Robin's making it shouldn't be too long before there'll be rails to run on! Mike, any further questions about sprung gangways i'll be at Cardiff on the 23rd-24th with Robin on Sheep Pasture. If you want another look, let me know and i'll bring them along. Paul
  14. Adam, as above, looks superb! Also many thanks for the link, some cracking pictures there! Just a couple of comments after looking at the prototype. It looks like the hazard stripes on the front of the tank should be black and yellow, are you planning on addind the black? Also it looks as if there's a witness of some lining on the tank close to the radius of the tank bottom although it could be my eyes deceving me! Looking forward to the dirty pics! Paul
  15. You tease, you know I can't have a train of just 1 Herring! Don't worry i'm not known for speed but feel free to gently prod me if you don't hear anything! Lol, better hope we don't have to move onto the track cutters and heaven forbid firing up the Dyna-drive!!! (Now where are those devil ears and evil grin to go with my smilie!)
  16. Unfortunately there was a no show on the weekend so haven't been able to obtain any more info just yet, I am working on it though! If gentle persuasion fails i'll move on to thumb locks! Yup, wagon's look so lonely on their own! I must say I do like your rake of 16 tonners and that stanier brake is comming along very nice too!
  17. Looks suberb James, i'd be proud of that too! Not too sure what I think about the yellow on the buffers on the prototype, think I prefer the model as it is now! Good luck with the weathering, that will really bring the model to life! Paul
  18. Bryn, excellent work, I would have chatted a bit more about this on Sat had I known! I've got a friend who has been working on the same kit in 4mm and i'm forever dropping subtle and not so subtle hints to hurry him up! Pixie, stop all that Parkend talk right now....you'll get me in trouble! (So how many do I need? Ummm suitable for both in the forrest and on the S&D.....) I really must stop looking at all this 2mm FS, I can't start yet another gauge!
  19. Nick, Apologies there, I had the post 1948 blinkers on! Interesting to here that it was possibly only the chimney, I thought I'd heard/read something to suggest the cab roof had a different profile (flatter?), I'll have to dig my books back out when I next get the chance. Dave, I agree it would be an unusual set of steps for the crane, I guess there's the possibility that the crane was nolonger in use and that they'd used the beam to mount mezanine? Looks like another case of a photo that doesn't quite include all the info required Rob! Rob, I take it the modelling will be taking a break later tonight! Paul
  20. Robin, I know i've seen the photo before of the inside of the workshop but i've only just noticed the steps in the background. In this case it would suggest that there was a mezanine floor along the back wall? On re-reading my entry I've changed my mind as I suspect that these steps were in fact access to the overhead crane, the track of which being evident in the right hand corner of the picture. Excellent progress! Nick, As far as I know when the Sentinel's went to Barrow Road for maintenance they had their chains were removed and were marshalled within one of the good trains (presumably to Westerleigh?). I believe I've seen a photo showing this but I can't for the life of me remember where. With regards to 51202 I believe it was only at Radstock for a limited period (3 months?) in 1952, I am unaware that it visited prior or post to this visit. I understand that the reason for 51202's tempory relocation was due to the requirement of cover for one of the Sentinel's whilst it was being overhauled. Again I believe 51202 was chosen due to the restrictions on the running line at Tyning Arch and the fact that 51202 sported a cut down cab. I'm recalling the above from memory of previous research so please correct me if i'm wrong, likewise further supporting information is always much appreciated (Radstock is of particular interest to me in addition to Barrow Road).
  21. They look even better on the screen than they did on camera Robin! Pleased they came out well and a nice bit of cropping there to hide the occasional black hole!
  22. Robin, The shed looks excellent, it's really starting to come together! Looking forward to next Saturday! Paul
  23. Hi Rob, I've taken a couple of pics of the NYMR wheel drop for you. See you Friday for another fun packed weekend! Paul
  24. Rob, I really like that last photo. Compliment's to the photographer! The penultimate photo too has really come out well in terms of atmosphere. Mr Gilbert's stock looks supurb as usual!!! Paul
  25. Looking good Rob! Excellent job by the brickies too on those extra door ways and window's! It's amazing the progress of what seems like not time at all, I guess I have been a little pre-occupied of late though! Will have to make another site visit in the near future. Best wishes Paul
