  1. What no products yet! Only joking. I would like some tea chests as I think there marvelous. Great idea. Though I'm some way off needing them yet.
  2. http://www.lostrailwayswestyorkshire.co.uk/leeds%20new%20line%203.htm Or if that doesn't work try the index below and navigate to it manually. http://www.lostrailwayswestyorkshire.co.uk/index.htm
  3. For more detailed information and a map http://www.lostrailwayswestyorkshire.co.uk/leeds%20new%20line%203.htm New pic's added to post above as it was easier than trying to get the editor to work here. Walked from Royds park to Heckmondwike. Parking can be challenging but fortunatley the doctors surgery next to the park was closed this morning so I parked in there. Sorry, link works first time for me! Just google "Lostrailwayswestyorkshire.co.uk" and navigate to it manually.
  4. There are modelers and there are artists. I think you fall into the latter. I see you have great skill in painting your models. Thanks for sharing. I need all the help I can get!
  5. I used to have a large loft layout that was run on Hornbys old Zero 1 system. It worked pretty well and I wonder if Hornbys marketing and launch hadn't been so botched the revolution may have come sooner. But the additional cost of the chips and sound rule out DCC for me for now. I'm far more interested in battery power and live locomotives as that seems more prototypical and removes the risk of a dirty wheel bringing everything to an unscheduled halt.
  6. Very neat work. I'm really jealous. Just got the gas back on with the pipes replaced. Will be another month before I've got the kitchen back in commission and I can get back on with my baseboard construction. Keep it up. Ten minutes looking at this keeps me sane.... If this is as good as your rolling stock it will be a belter.
  7. Just keeps getting better. Can't wait to see it with the sky added. Fantastic job.
  8. It wouldn't be a huge job to double the stretchers and turn them into beams. The sides would turn into H section or at least L section. It does add to the expense but having once built a layout that had to be scrapped due to warping and sagging I now go the other way and build boards that are probably ridiculously strong. And well. Not exactly featherweight. You can laugh at me humping them about but they will survive being driven over. Just nervous too that your boards will be stiff enough for the job. You build amazing models. Wouldn't like to see it broken up before its time.
  9. Just a photo of two of the far end of the Spen Valley Ringway. I was planning to walk in from the Walkley Lane end. Heckmondwike. Unfortunatley this end is pretty overgrown and rather muddy so ended up walking the other direction onto the Greenway. The L&Y line. Though in summer and without small children I think it would be passable. Still got a couple of pics of the bridge at Walkley Lane. Will add to this when I go back to walk the rest from the other end if anyones interested. Nothing very recent on the web and was wondering what state it was in. http://www.forgottenrelics.co.uk/bridges/heckmondwike.html Have always wanted to walk this bit. Kids really enjoy these kind of walks as you never quite know what you will find. Bridge at Walkley Lane. As promised a few more photos of the LNWR Leeds new line and in particular Heckmondwike cutting. I really like this bit of railway. Fantastic stone work that you can't get a cigerette paper inbetween. Some of the block measure over 3' X 2'. Heaven knows how they moved them. Highly recommended for a railway walk. Perhaps my modelling would be better after a gallon of beer. It worked for the Navies who built this lot!
  10. If I was your neighbor you'd have to kick me out of there! Beautiful inspirational modelling. Never give up.
  11. Looking good. Where did you get the brick paper?? I could use some of that... edit. email sent
  12. Not sure if this is the right place but I took the family for a new years walk starting from Queensbury station walking along the track bed towards Wellhead tunnel. Now a bridleway. Still a fair bit of railway left to look at and good fun. Will put a couple of pics up when I get the chance. https://www.sustrans.org.uk/sites/default/files/images/files/Great%20North%20Trail%202012.pdf Not the best pictures but I had to dump the sky to get the exposure better on my phone. Had the battery not been flat there would have been more. Going back with a camera next time!
  13. Interesting thread. Only just discovered this! Watching with interest. Like the frog jigs. And some lovely stock. A lot of railway in the space. What radius are the points? Keep us up to date. And start the layout soon!
  14. Particularly like the mirror stainless you put at the end. Had me fooled for a bit. Thought you'd made a whole new scenic board! Great stuff. In the two and a half years you've been working on this I haven't made a whole lot of progress. So time to stop dreaming and build another layout myself. Suitably inspired by yours. Think it may take a little longer than this and I doubt it will ever be this good. But I just feel the need. Keep posting the updates. And when you exhibit it let us know where and when! Really it looks ready.
  15. Just discovered the progress. Fantastic. Love the pics you've found. Think I'm just not very good at searching the net.... Theres an art to what you put in... GNR signal box wouldn't have worked for me. Lol. Don't you have a separate topic for Queensbury??? It's looking great. Keep it up.
  16. I just ordered a set for my own use but could maybe pass them on when I've copied what I want if necessary. It's a much bigger range than Peco do and since they are also available in kit form they work out very competitive in price. Would be great to see the Marcway range in Scarm.
  17. Any chance of adding a library for Marcway O gauge track. They do a big range of kits and ready built in O from 48" to 108" plus slips and 3 ways at competitive prices. And unlike Peco the points are available now. The point kits are under £30 so are quite attractive. Especially if buried in setts so the chairs or lack of them can't be seen anyway.... Would help a lot to be able to see what I could fit in first. There really isn't anything similar to use instead. Scarm keeps getting better. Many thanks for this useful design tool.
  18. Windsor lad would look great on the mantle piece..... Wow. Can't wait to see these.
  19. David, In plan L2 (9'6X5'6) Mr Freezer has another station that feeds this one before the reversing loop. The 4 tracks go down to 2 before the simple single track loop. The carriage sidings and goods facilities are at this station. So the intention must have been for the lines paired as up slow up fast/down fast down slow. Mr Freezer usually put deliberate snarling up operations into his plans to make the operation more interesting. So a deal of shunting is built in. So there should always be something going on between arrivals and departures. The plan is basically his except I have replace two points with the single slip & used large curved radius points instead of the plain as I think they look more prototypical. The top loco spur has lengthened into a short parcels bay to add operational interest. And the central carriage siding also. The platforms would be better a bit longer but then they wouldn't fit into my loft room! The station building is where it is for visual balance but it could be scaled down a bit & the departure platforms lengthened somewhat. The plan was meant to be for an intensive suburban service exclusively for tank engines. But a small tender engine could easily be run light around the loop if you wanted the variety. Mostly I think that there could only be one departure or arrival at a time or the single handed operator would be overwhelmed. It's just a bit of fun really while recovering from a chest infection. But the plan came out better than I expected & I wouldn't mind giving it a go. Just for the look of trains running through the junction. It has an appeal of it's own. There are some fine tank engines available at the moment so with the whole thing could be built up in a reasonable time scale. Although Mr Freezers plan was originally meant for the steam age. It would convert fairly easily for modern image.
  20. Yes Cromptonnut. Yes. If you want a four track approach something has to give. Theres so much point work in the approach that the platforms get squeezed. I would run 4 coach trains. But with modern image it's less convincing. Also modern coaches are longer than the old 57'. It would certainly be improved with some extra storage sidings in the loops. At least for a parcels train. I would want somewhere for the loco coal train. You wouldn't need the shed. Extra carriage sidings would be more use. I just really like the station approach. And with loops the thing runs itself. Just whatever you send out will be back in a couple of minutes. I slotted a carriage siding in to see what it looked like. The board is down to 22" at the moment but would need to be back to 2 foot for a better island platform. Costed the point work out at £350 in Peco. In steam guise it would be a great exhibition layout. Not too big to cart about. But interesting. Though not sure I'd want to run it for a weekend. Not without DCC & a computer to do the hard work. Good fun messing with plans though.... You could always add an other 3' of platform just for exhibitions! And store them underneath when not needed......
  21. Have to agree. I've actually added 15" to the original plan as I have a recess next to a chimney breast that is useful space. I could have fitted a turntable in but since the train length is already down to 4 coaches. A tender loco would knock it down to 3.(Assuming shorter suburban coaches.) And it adds some balance to the model. I like a lot of Mr Freezers plans but they are often a bit too much in the space. Using large & medium radius points and taking a bit out seems to make them more realistic. Added a carriage siding for parcels traffic. A favourite of Mr Freezer.. A simple traverser would save space in place of loops but since one surburban train looks very much like another. Loops would enhance the operating experience. And all the stock is then stored on show. Cromptonnut has got me thinking. So many great tank engines available at the moment. Scale scenes buildings and retaining walls. You could axe the sidings and use dmu's or sprinters. But if modern image It would work pretty well in N. Perhaps a little longer. With a few inches behind for a street scene. Though steam is my thing..... Inspiration from L2 City specials from Plans for larger layouts. CJ Freezer. 2nd edition. Edit to show it all works with code75. One point next to the single slip would need trimming. And to add carriage siding between platforms 1 & 2.
  22. Alarmingly. This would actually fit in my loft room in OO! 16 points and a slip. At least 6 tank engines. Not cheap but......... Would look good with some low relief house backs and a mill or two. Think I need to go and lie down in a darkened room.
  23. Shed and railway at the bottom of the garden. Great. You should move up north. You could have a 5 bed mansion with an acre of land for that up here in the third world. Build a proper garden railway in that. And have it all stolen. Lol
  24. Replace most of the small radius turnouts with medium and it doesn't actually take any more space. Didn't quite work with the Y though. Middle platform should be wider I think. Sidings at the bottom for loco storage. This originally did go through an intermediate staion where the 4 tracks went back to 2 & then to a mostly hidden loop under the terminus itself. But just round to some hidden loops would do the same job. Enough there to build as it is. Its Mr Freezers plan not mine! Shame there wasn't the range of rtr track that there is now. I wonder what the guy would have churned out! edited to update plan. Now all large or med rad turnouts except in shed area. Tweaked a bit more. Note single slip. You can tell I'm bored. Still playing. Smoothed out a dogleg.....Added tunnel mouths and signal cabin, coal stage for fun. Final size 2' X 10' 9" for station board. 4' widest edge. minimum radius 36" curves into station. Scaled for 4mm/ft Peco streamline track library. Maximum Train length 46" so tank engine and short suburban coaches for best effect.
  25. Had a go at drawing CJ Freezers version. But when he did it there were no double slips or curved points so it's changed a little to try and get rid of some of the dog legs/compromises. Top right small loco shed. Was supposed to be worked by tank engines like the original. Stuck at home with a chest infection so what else to do! On reflection a large Y in the middle and more medium radius points would improve it but you can see the idea. Even so it takes up 12' rather than the 9'6" of the original if 3'6" train lengths are to be used.
