  1. Just discovered this. Or rather RM web pointed me to it. Have to say it looks absolutely amazing. Sometimes take the Wakefield route to Leeds just for the scenery. Its only about ten minutes longer. Cracking photographs. Keep them coming.
  2. If you put that on ebay I think you should get rather more than your asking! Total bargain if you ask me. The last layout I sold was just baseboards & track. It made more than that! Can't OO stock be converted to run on P4???

Thanks for the Pic's. I couldn't make Telford! Fantastic looking layout.
  4. The mill. Quarry bank??? I actually haven't been there yet but its on my list. Glad to see your still modelling. Married life is more ups than downs. Commitment is the key. If it isn't working your not trying hard enough! Lol. Trust me it has nothing to do with luck! Will be getting the next copy of BRM then. That will make 3 this year! Bit extravagant.
  5. As a child I had a bad attack of bronchitis and was sent to Goathland to convalesce. I spent the summer in a house in the village near the church & used to go train spotting as I recovered on the NYMR. Maybe thats were I got the steam bug. Spent a lot of time at Darnhome watching the trains go past. Riding on them was beyond my pocket money. You have got the spirit of the place in there! But it needs more sheep! Swaledales. Black faces with horns.... No model of Goathland can be without sheep. They are everywhere & usually where they shouldn't be! In gardens. On the road. On the railway..... edit. Don't forget the cattle grids! They started making them with H girder & the sheep worked out how to get over them.... Worst offenders were hobbled. Problem with hill sheep is they can climb dry stone walls. Particularly if hungry!
  6. A great modeller & I will miss the updates on Tetleys as it was a particular inspiration for what I'm trying to build. He put great atmosphere into his work.
  7. You've done it now mate. I used to have loads of time for modelling until the kids came along..... Congratulations. Truly I wouldn't go back. My son is steam mad... Don't know why...... lol

    BITTON

I have a stair case & a roof light window. Also a smoke detector. Needs a bit of plaster on the chimney breast & it will do. Extinguisher not a bad idea though. My reason for choosing it is it's bigger than the shed & in O gauge every inch counts. I bought a house with an extinct railway tunnel yards away though I din't know it at the time. Found a film on utube dating from 1900 with my house on it! There was also a station yards away that didn't close until 1975 thats now a supermarket car park. All soot blackened stone. Good inspiration. Thanks for the tip!

Just spotted this. Good to see your doing okay bodgit. All the best with your shed! I fixed my existing shed but then decided I wanted to be in the loft!!! Used a fire door for security. Solid. And not too pricey. Shed was made in block so I reroofed it with bitumen sheets & clad it with feather edge board with felt behind where the wind hits it. Love the prototype. Very pretty buildings. Look forward to seeing this develop. I'm just at the planning stage also as my loft isn't yet fit to use. Frustrating isn't it! Are you working in OO for this one/ You just convinced me to try O gauge with Trebudoc.....
  10. Informative & interesting. I found a new copy of the Gravitt book Pt one. Which helped me decide on O gauge. Waiting for Part 2 to come found on ebay. Sadly these books are now out of print. Like the use of the doors. Usually folk complain that they are too big. But you have shown how easy it is to cut them down & join them together. Worthy of consideration for my layout! I will follow this with interest. Bet you have it finished before I even have my railway room ready! Actually its my sons bedroom but I don't think he will mind.. Hes train mad. Don't know why.......
  11. What if I went O Gauge????? Just a doodle based on a Freezer plan of St Ives. Though i would move it north. Just about fits. Plan drawn using peco O gauge bullhead track. Or do I go industrial??? Size is 12' X 8' and goes around a chimney breast. Train length about 4'. Would need short coaches so pre grouping??? min rad is 4'.
  12. Glad to hear your not doing a Larry! Layouts of this quality should only ever be sold!! (Hint to Larry!) Not that I could afford it. Your work looks fantastic. Look forward to your next project. Great photo.
  13. Looks interesting. Is that the cornard point control system? Is that still available? I used to use gem point levers with that. Worked very well for pennies. Seem to remember I got it from Holt model railways but they don't have it listed on there website any more. It was a lot cheaper than brass. Good work!
  14. Fascinating thread. Have to ask just what is your minimum radius. The picture of the tank engine 56029 just before a point the radius of which looks sharper than anything I've ever seen in 7mm. Sure this will be a cracking layout when you get there. Also what is the blue material your using as track support? Some kind of insulation maybe? Please keep up with the detailed photo's & information. O gauge is a new world for me.....
  15. The problem with photographic back scenes is that we don't have the air pollution now that we had then. At least not the visible sort. They work ok for modern image. I see what you mean now Jason. But when you look at the photograph with the hills dubbed in from an old picture. Doesn't it just finish it off?? I agree that a bad back scene is worse than non at all. But some smog cloaked silhouettes would be a different story. And that helps the problem of the perspective. May be worth an experiment when you get through the point rodding. Messing with period photographs may work better than anything you could take now. Yes there is only one true perspective. But everything we do is the art of compromise in modeling. Maybe Larrys back scene was just too sharp & clean. Your model looks fantastic as it is. Would that I could get near to that standard!
  16. That would be me. The back-scene really sets it off. Great photograph. Have to agree with Larry RE the Sowerby Bridge reference also. Perhaps thats why I like it so much. I lived there for eleven years. There is an element of genius in Jasons work. It's a bit copenhagen fields with the layout set in the scenery. Proving that less (By way of track plan) can be more. Fantastic work. And the speed of progress is just as amazing to me. This is also one of the more informative threads on here as you don't just show the finished article but describe in detail how you got there with supporting photographs. Truly inspirational modeling. Maybe one day before too long I can get this XXXXed house livable & get some modeling done of my own. Until then this forum keeps me sane.... Well done Jason!! I look forward to the article.
  17. Love the Aspinal tank. But then I would wouldn't I..... Fantastic weathering... Love to see Bacup in a mag soon.... It's a very special model. Keep at it! And please tell us which mag we have to look out for. All the best!
  18. Yes Andy thats exactly what I meant. Thanks. The first one does it for me. Jason. Blow it up & take it to work. Nobody will believe it's not the real thing... Fantastic work Jason! Love it.
  19. Thanks for the pics. Wow. Personal favorite has to be the super D under the bridge. If you print out some of these in sepia & age them a bit. Blow them up & frame them. Nobody would guess they were models.... Good to see some of the details somebody was too modest to show us. One thing that stands out is the need for a good back scene, But please not blue sky & fluffy clouds. More a pea soup-er...It is Bacup after all. View distance would be pretty poor with all those chimneys smoking. More silhouettes & smog than detail. Or even just a murky Grey sky. That would finish it off a treat. Just a thought.
  20. Been busy away working. Just done a quick catch up. Amazing stuff. Do you mind me asking what your minimum radius is? The layout I'm planning has an 18" reversing loop & I'm not sure how modern stock will get on with it. I doubt I will be able to close couple my loco's like you have done. Love the Aspinal tank. Whats the origin of that one? The photos look superb. I would like to see this in BRM some time soon!! In about a fortnight when it's finished......Lol
  21. I can't go there as talktalk security is blocking the website as it is reported as harmful!!! Bet it isn't but something is wrong somewhere!!!
  22. Very glad to hear it. Playing trains is an important aspect that is often overlooked. How do i smuggle some new rolling stock past the wife??.... Another important aspect of the hobby.. Keep modelling Jason. Inspirational stuff. I can't wait to get my railway room finished & start cutting wood..
  23. Happy new year. Great modeling. Was hoping to get over to Frizinghall today to look at the lanky tank. Didn't make it. Yours looks the business. Still think you should exhibit the layout. It moves o.k you proved it!
  24. My son is only two. All he will watch on tv is Thomas. He demands it. I'm building a layout for similar reasons after a break from the hobby. My last layout was sold to make room in the nursery for an unexpected arrival... That was nearly 5 years ago. Now after 3 house moves I have the chance to start again. If my son keeps his interest he can play with me. If not I will play anyway! Let us know how you get on! And enjoy the journey.
  25. Yes. Have a look at my plan in the Scarm thread. But please look also at CJ Freezers plans. AngusDes plan looks a lot more railway like for me. With easier curves you will have less problems with stock overhangs. And less restrictions on what you can run. With a bit less railway theres more room to model. Also if you are in the middle you can easily reach everything & the trains go out of sight from time to time so it will feel more real! But thats just my perpective. If 4' is what you got then you have to make the best of it. Better than no railway at all. I would have a shunting plank rather than a glass case full of pretty locos that never turn a wheel.
