  1. CJ Freezer did one or two. Pretty sure I have it somewhere. 2nd edition plans for larger layouts (1973). L2 under City specials. Part of a 9'6" X 5'6" layout. It's 10' X 2' for the terminus using plain 24" inch turnouts. But flows quite well. Would need to redraw it into scarm or something to print it here. Too much railway for modern thinking but could be reworked into an L shape layout to reversing loops to make it manageable to work. You can get it on ebay if your interested. Not quite minories but it looks impressive.
  2. Please bring it to the third world.... Up north. All the best for the weekend. Sure it will go down a storm.
  3. That's got me thinking. The kits really are very good quality. And though we are all used to seeing plasticard buildings that in reality are in desperate need of pointing. If you actually put a straight edge on a brick or even dressed stone wall there is precious little relief. The photo realistic textures are way better than I ever managed to paint my old plasticard efforts anyway. Be interested to see how you do the chimney pot on the cheap! Built a castle for my son for Christmas using some of the stone paper & it looks pretty convincing even it is 2D. Did it in 7mm. First bit of modelling I've managed in a long time. Thanks for sharing. It's looking good!
  4. Santa has come early. Have to say I'm really glad I went for the green one. The lining is bob on. Only had a few minutes so didn't even take it out of the box. The photo was taken on my phone and doesn't do it justice. But it looks fantastic. Even the box looks class. Delighted.
  5. Fantastic progress. Think your going to have finished this before I even get to start mine! Whats more you haven't compromised on quality. Looking really amazing. Just love it. Its really not that far off now!
  6. I was exploring Dean clough recently. I wonder if there was a wagon lift to take the coal down into the mills as theres a massive difference in levels from the sidings that went under the running lines before the tunnel. Either that or it must have been an evil gradient. There are also some of the tightest radius curves still embedded in the road near the weigh bridge that I have ever seen. Hope you can get to some modelling soon.
  7. Looks like it should work to me. Interesting approach. I'm considering knocking something up in this scale as a test bed & to serve as a train set for my son. The tight radius & steep inclines will look better in Narrow gauge. And the cheapo 0-4-0 Hornby chassis shouldn't be too ruinous to replace when they give up the struggle! Enjoying the build. Keep at it!
  8. Hope I can make it to Shipley & see it for real. Another cracking layout Jason. Any new stock in time for the show? Edit And Chris of course.... Joint project this one.... Sorry guys.
  9. Lovely. Still might beet the Terrier into production! Only trouble is I may wish to change my mind on livery now...... Lined green looks very pretty. Getting excited now. Who knows this might get me to start the railway......
  10. ""a holiday internet purchase has arrived and will be motorised and fitted, probably a bit too old for the 1960's, but the factory owner is a tight-wad. Thats fantastic. Would like to know how you get on with making it work! Had a look at there other items... interesting. This is going to be great!
  11. It may not be so quick but it is looking very very good. You have virtually built a layout in the time it's taken for me to come up with a plan! If I can even get near to your build quality I will be very happy. Great inspirational thread & very helpful it is too. The only modelling I've managed since Christmas it to order a Loco. My favorite thread on here by a long chalk! Keep it coming!!
  12. Missed this until now. Was considering something similar but since I've now moved to 7mm I don't have the space to do it justice. There is more information about the local area & the lines into Dean Clough complex in Banksfield museum which I found more helpful than the central library. These were used to supply coal to the mills below. The wagons being worked down by gravity & horses used to pull the empties back up again. Some of the lines were only used for the movement of machinery. Theirs a picture of the Great Northern hotel in Halifax pubs Vol 2 which you can access via Google. ( it lets you search the book.) There are a few more photographs on the web but I won't publish them here for fear of infringing copyright. Martin Bairstows "Leeds/Bradford Rail centers by Stephan R Batty" has a good history of the line though no photographs of North Bridge. It was built by the L&Y and they kept running rights over the line though had little interest in operating it. The whole area is fascinating & I had now idea there was a dead railway yards from my front door when I moved here! he area behind the station was redeveloped as it had some of the worst housing in Halifax. It now has some tower blocks which are a dubious replacement. If you walk up old lane away from Halifax there's a z shaped foot bridge off to the left that used to go between two mills & shows the site of the viaduct at the far end of Woodside tunnel. The portal is still there though it's buried & I love the old pub under the flyover. All the best with the project.
  13. Looks terrific as it is. Once painted.... And improved. Can't wait for mine. Love the rivet detail. Somehow clicking like doesn't seem enough.
  14. If the test bed is this good I can't wait to see the real thing! Great work.
  15. Just noticed this & very interested maybe excited is a better word. Will it be out before the Dapol Terrier? Seriously would like one of these. If it is to be out for Christmas then I have a little time to pick the colour scheme & start the railway! Just come in from building a work bench in the shed. So making progress steadily.
  16. Glad it's not only me! Close to finishing the house. Now started on the shed. Stuffed it with insulation at the weekend. Just needs a work bench making & I can make a start. Good luck with the kitchen. I've been doing this place up for two years in may. Think I'm due some R&R. The money i've saved would pay for several model railways... Well that's my argument anyway. Seems to be working so far... My layout thread would be more suited to a DIY website at the moment. lol. Good progress on the railway. Will look forward to it's resumption before too long!
  17. Great! The more I read this thread the less I will mess up with my own layout! Good to see lots of pictures. I didn't even know Scale Link produced anything in this scale! I love the gates. You must be pleased with the way this is turning out! Spent the afternoon working on the loft room & a bit of inspiration is welcome. It's cold up there & I don't feel too enthusiastic about going up there.
  18. Hello, More a steam man myself but also new to O gauge. Trying to avoid buying things until I have the railway room finished. So as to avoid distraction. It's a whole new world! I sold all my 2mm stuff 5 years ago when my daughter was born & the railway room turned into a nursery. Solved that buy doing up a bigger house! After building etched brass wagons in 2mm. Can't wait to start again in something more substantial. Wish I had 37'. But have to make do with 13'.... All the best!
  19. Two questions. Could the show size & area be savable in a jpeg? Could the roads be done in blue to use as simple to use canals, rivers etc/ Some different widths would be useful. It takes ages making water courses using blue polygons....

    BITTON

I feel the need to catch up on this thread. But 154 pages! I fear life is too short. Glad you got something running now! It can only get better from here! You certainly beat me to it.
  21. Glad to see your still modelling mills! Will watch with interest. Not been around much lately as trying to get the house finished so I can get on with some serious modelling myself. So somehow missed this. Looks promising...
  22. Been away busy working on the house. Love those gallery pics you put on. Fantastic stuff. Somehow just clicking like isn't enough!!
  23. Was considering a narrow gauge project in a similar space (13'6" X 4' max) Advantage of this one is it allows continuous running & would use Hornby OO 0-4-0 chassis so would cost peanuts. Should also look pretty. Minimum radius 15" and savage gradients but short stock & trains shouldn't have a problem. Still like the pull of O gauge though so this one may give somebody else some inspiration! Redrawn another of Mr Freezers plans originally meant for OO but it seems to lend itself to Narrow gauge rather well. Perhaps an option given how hard small boys are on locomotives. Perhaps as an expendable step? Edited to add 3D image to show how the gradients work. A few more inches on the baseboard width at the front looks necessary. Would still be within 4' as drawn. Thanks Mixy. Should be a road going under both tracks to the station but you get the gist. Plan drawn using Peco OO setrack which could be purchased second hand & the sleepers buried in ash. The more time it takes to finish the railway room. The more ideas I come up with. Can only build one at time!
  24. You made such a cracking job of the baseboards I think I may give doors a try myself. Hadn't considered that they could be trimmed to size & joined so easily. Guess I just wasn't brave enough to take a saw to one! Great work.
