See you there as another ( not quite as ) local. One attraction of Statfold for me is the Burton & Ashby Light Railway tramcar which is an active resident there & will be hosting rides. My house is built on top of what was originally a cutting carrying its tracks. It’s now a busy main road.
I have to agree with you about GETS . Apart from the hassle of finding my way off the M1 ( a rail strike day )
I found the event far too cramped and crowded for my comfort.
One thing perhaps should be emphasised and that is Tamworth’s accessibility by rail from all four corners of the UK. The WCML is served by an hourly LNWR Euston-Crewe service and XC services from anywhere between West,North East & Scotland. Complementary vintage bus from station to Statfold which is in a blissfully quiet countryside40 minutes ago, 2ManySpams said:I personally don't see the clash with GETS as an issue. I've been once and don't think I'd bother going again. I can play the sardine game on my train trips to and from Birmingham or on the London Underground.
The two events seem completely different and I think will attract different audiences. The Statfold event is certainly in my diary. I just hope they start beefing up the capacity of the catering to cope with the visitor numbers.
Being only 5 miles down the road I'd happily offer my cameo layout for a show in 2025.

Fair enough, they did start it.... 😬
And boy,did we finish it.Just reflecting…as a war baby….on what happened to Plymouth in rebuilding post war and comparing it with the destruction of a Dresden whose Frauenkirche has famously chosen to make connections with Coventry Cathedral ( I have visited both) and which city has chosen to rebuild itself somewhat differently. As to the bomb……well then, have a fishie on a little dishing, when the boat comes in .- 5

Why can't Germany come and deal with it at their cost, they put it there for God's sake.😉
Maybe recall Basil Fawlty ?- 1

And it’s just a 30 minute leisurely drive from where I sit. Easy free access from Tamworth by vintage bus.

I wish all going a great weekend. With one piece of advice.Glasgow is one of the UK’s great cities and is well provided with some great Italian restaurants. If you have any “leisure time”,then I suggest you sample one …or even two.Enjoy yourselves.

I bought it off Rob of this very parish about 10 years ago... although it might have been longer (or shorter).
Enjoying the light show. One will be just right coupled to my crimson GW SRM. ( Not your particular variant I hasten to add though).- 2

Behold the 99p* carriage.
So... this will be found at the end of a sleepy ex LSWR branchline somewhere in the deepest darkest (!?) west country.
I wasn't going to purchase it just yet but after needing cheering up# on Sunday I had a 💡 moment.
I've just swapped to Octopus energy and will get £50 credit from them because I was recommended by another customer, so we both get £50. I headed over to Kernow to buy it but then realised I also had £5 credit, armed with my 'free' £55, paid up the £55:99, so *99p, is what it cost + £4 postage. I then had an email from the Scale Four Society telling me that I was due a £24 refund (I thought they might have found me out) because I'd paid my subs twice... so it turns out buying that top light means I'm still £19 up on the deal.
#you don't know man, you weren't there... well @Mallard60022 was.
Bravo….and welcome to the Octopussy Club from another member. Now maybe a smart meter if you haven’t already got one ? I was unconvinced until I had a couple of months spell in hospital &;there was no one at home to read the meters.- 1

Hi,
Looking forward to E2001, did the loco work passenger services as a Gas Turbine or after it was converted to Electric? Thanks Fred
As a gas turbine, yes it did work passenger services on the WR,notably between Paddington & Bristol on services such as The Merchant Venturer. Due to a variety of difficulties it was withdrawn from BR service as a gas turbine late in 1953 after barely two years work..An authentic train would consist of crimson & cream Colletts & Hawksworths but not Mk 1’s. Though Toplights were also widely used too. So good if you’ve any kit built ones at hand. It re-emerged as. 25Kv AC electric firstly on the newly electrified Styal loop in Cheshire, the UK pioneer of its kind.- 1

I would check to make sure that you don't have the worm clip issue. It causes the worm to not mesh with the gears so effectively powering only one bogie under load. The loco can easily pull that load without problems when working correctly. In fact a test was done recently where a Hornby 56 pulled against ours one going one way and one the other and our 56 pulled the Hornby one away in the opposite direction.
I have the same underpowered issue with lack of traction ,gear grinding, slipping & stalling. It’s dc only 56093. Do I need to return it to fix as it would seem that you have identified the issue above ? Or is there an easy fix ? Bought from Ultimate late last week . -
I have zero online record of my order except the memory of the fact that I did in fact have one. I have trawled my email inbox in vain over the last two years .There obviously is no paper trail and I cannot recollect whether it’s DCC ready or Sound. I think the latter but am unsure. What order number it is I haven’t the faintest idea.I emailed HTG early today in reply to their request for the balance but no reply yet. I can do nothing without the details of my order being forthcoming.

The A/S Manor smokebox because that has a matt finish which makes it look lighter.
The Dapol Mogul's smokebox has the same satin finish as the rest of the black areas on that model and similar to the non-smokebox areas of the A/S Manor - and similar to 99% of GWR loco models we've ever seen.
Dapol would be very foolish indeed to try to replicate the different surface finish of the A/S Manor smokebox by greying down their standard satin finish over the entire model - and I don't think that's what they've done. I think they've either chosen to use grey for some reason that's difficult to understand or it's a factory mistake.
Well if you consider the “khaki” Mogul,my money would be on factory error. Given current circumstances,it must be difficult for Dapol to keep a grip on matters at the factory face.- 2

Many thanks Rob for this. A definitive outing for black without question. The trick is to enlarge the images of both. The Accurascale Manor remains sharp black. The Dapol Mogul fades outward with a tinge of pink. Well it does to my eyes anyway. The conclusion has to be that the smoke box black on the GWR Moguls is unfortunately repeated with the overall black of the WR examples. Both models shown on your image are lined with small BR e/c. -
I bring you good Dapol news. Look on Rails website. The first 3 Toplight versions have arrived. So yesterday’s news was correct.

I was in the market for an 8F, to turn into a WD one, but even on sale I wont be buying one of these. I'll either look for a good second hand one, with the better smokebox door, or wait for the inevitable new tooled one in the future. Charging modern prices for older models is one thing, but actively making a model worse? Nope.
Couple of points….and I appreciate your views….If looking for “a good second hand one “consider the possibility of Mazak rot as any around will be 10+ years old and could be affected : and secondly don’t assume that a newly tooled version will be coming any time soon. As an aside, compare this release with Hornby’s decision to retool the Black 5.Yes it’s a puzzle but atm things appear to be in a state of flux.- 1

I had a look at one today in the shop, Ian.
The black parts are undoubtedly a dark, arguably slate grey, Panzer grey at best. The BR black simply aren't. They are without doubt grey and an odd choice made by Dapol.
Next time I'm in ( Thursday) if no one had done so, I'll photograph one alongside an Accurascale black Manor by way of comparison.
Rob.
Many thanks,Rob. By coincidence,I’m atm looking at 2 e/c…lined & plain black Accurascale Manors. So your help in this is much appreciated.Certainly both these Manors are convincing so the comparison will be crucial. -

On Dapol 's site at the home page in the upper moving banner it says just arrived, so it seems they are at Dapol now
Indeed it does. But they don’t appear in the For Sale section. So might this “just arrived “ perhaps refer to the samples first seen last September ? Perplexing to say the least but entirely in accord with Dapol’s policy of playing their cards close to the chest. 🤞🏽that they actually have arrived.- 2

The models would seem to represent DR ( Late East Germany ). So possibly Piko ?
