  1. Coming a bit late to this thread. @TT100 Diesels inspiring stuff, thanks for posting, you've encouraged me to have a go at some Triang vans etc of mine. I noticed at the top of thread that you had removed the chassis from yours to work on them. Beginners question: how do they come off ? (without damage!) I've tried with some of mine but I'm obviously missing something. Andrew
  2. Hi @J-Lewis, I just found this thread and I'm interested in your mention of an eBay 3-D printing service. Would you be able to share a link, please? Thanks in advance, Andrew
  3. Great modelling, very atmospheric. How did you do your point rodding? It looks very good!
  4. Thanks @Yorkshire Square- my bad! I managed to miss the obvious. Thanks too for the info about the 2FS version.
  5. Hi @Tomsontour, Many thanks for posting, excellent video. The points look very good. Are they N-gauge or 2mm FS?
  6. Thanks to all for the suggestions. I've got a much better idea now what to ask Santa for!! Andrew
  7. Hello all, I'm in need of better illumination and magnification for my modelling work. I already have a desk top magnifier with lights built in, which helps, but for some work I need greater magnification. I was impressed by some dental loupes with LED on a visit to the dentist recently and I think that would suit me. But there's a rather bewildering array available on the usual websites. I wear glasses for reading etc and so a model which works with glasses would probably be best. Has anyone bought one of these? Comments welcome, please. 8. Thanks for the suggestions about flux, very welcome. I was on the point of ordering some Carrs acid flux, but now I'll go for one of the safer alternatives. Andrew
  9. I hope @melmerby you won't mind me jumping in on this thread, but what flux do people find is good for white metal to white metal or white metal to brass? Andrew
  10. Nigel, I've been following this thread with great interest and enjoyment, it's been inspirational stuff and the loco is a credit to you. The way you shared each step, complete with the ups and downs, made it most interesting. I'm just getting going in 3mm scale and would love to build this loco as the Cambrian is/was my "local" railway. Have you given any thought to the possibility of making the etch file(s) available to others? Andrew
  11. Very nice, Nigel, thanks for posting. I've barely scratched the surface yet, but this and whart57's post are very inspirational for me! I've just started out with 3mm, and for starters I'm planning to see what I can achieve using Triang 12mm (so a world of difference) - but deep down, something like these are my long term aspiration! Andrew
  12. This is looking very nice. I'm watching with interest as Sharp-Stewarts were to be found on the Cambrian railways which are my area of interest - please do post more pictures as it develops! Andrew
  13. Potentially I'd be interested in all of these if they're not too expensive. I'm working up to scratch building carriages in 2mm. If you could find out more about availability and costs, that would be most helpful. Andrew.
  14. Nigel, thanks for the good advice. Your point about wheels for scratch building locos is a very good one which I hadn't really thought about, really in starting off in N fiNescale I was still in the mode of thinking about rtr and trying to avoid re-wheeling, but as you rightly say I'll need to scratch-build if I do the Cambrian. I think I feel a 2FS layout coming on! Anyway, this is helping me to get my thoughts clear, so thank you. Also looks like I need to be saving up for a Robocutter or Silhouette!! Anyway, in danger of diverging from the intended topic, so I'll hand the thread back now. Andrew.
  15. Wonderful, inspiring modelling! I'm working up to a 2mm layout based on the Cambrian at or near Oswestry. I'm very much at the research and planning stage, also cutting my teeth on a shunting plank in N gauge fiNescale. Beyond that, I'll have a go at scratch building a loco and buildings. Could you possibly give me some pointers to drawings, photos, etc which would help me get started? Any advice on how begin would be very welcome. Thanks in advance, Andrew.
