  1. A couple more photos showing the trusses inside the train shed roof
  2. I’ve been quiet on here of late, work and life have got in the way! But I’ve also been busy on the layout! I’ve added several new baseboards to extend the platforms and goods yard, I’ve ballasted the majority of the track, and I’ve also built brand new roofs for the train shed and re tiled the station buildings. See attached photos! Chris
  3. I wanted to build both bridges but unfortunately I don’t have the room to do so. I look forward to seeing your bridge 7 though Henk Chris
  4. Hi all, I’ve recently acquired a Hornby NRM edition Flying Scotsman, which has unfortunately been damaged, I suspect that it has been knocked off a table or dropped. The front buffer beam has broken and both buffers I suspect need replacing. It’s also missing one of the smoke deflectors, the cab has come adrift and the pipe that runs below the handrail on the left side of the boiler has snapped part way along. I’m told that the cab is an easy fix, but I’m not sure about the rest. Has anybody else had experience with repairing something like this and where can I get a replacement buffer beam, front buffers and smoke deflectors? Chris
  5. Yeah, I’m not sure if I can stretch to using the PL-15 due to the cost. I’ll buy some PL-13’s and see how I get on with them. I will of course feed it back to this thread.... Chris
  6. So is the general consensus that the PL-13 is rubbish and not fit for purpose? I’m in the process of wiring up my layout, in my scenic section all of my point motors are PL-10’s, and I was looking for a way to indicate point position on my control panel. If the PL-13 is no good is there an alternative? Chris
  7. Barry are you guys still trading? Chris G
  8. Hi Doug, You're very welcome! That book is a great resource for those of us modelling a branch line in the north east of England. Some great photos and as I've only just noticed, the last few pages have track plans on, which is a great help to me, even though it incorrectly shows the Richmond branch as single track! NER buildings isn't something I can help you with I'm afraid. I bought the station off a fellow modeller who built it 45 years ago(yes really!), and I have a very talented scratch builder who has made me the signal box, gas works and loco shed, and is currently working on the goods shed for me. I'm told that the loc sheds were all broadly similar, although the buildings at Richmond weren't built by the NER, but by a smaller company the ended up being swallowed up by the NER not long after the line opened. Chris
  9. Hi Alan, I may well take you up on that offer! We will probably end up bumping into some more fellow modellers there, I have a few of my comrades in the LNER Modellers Facebook group that live in the area who wouldn't mind exploring the station and immediate area too! Chris
  10. That looks suspiciously similar to some motors I was using to modify Nerf blasters a few years ago Chris
  11. Hi Tony, I take it that means that I would still be able to purchase some Markits sprung buffers too? Will be ordering some to improve my Hornby class 101, and also to help me achieve a more realistic coupling distance between the three vehicles. By the way, thank you agin for the K3, it's giving sterling service bringing troop trains into Richmond, standing in for my now sold split chassis Bachmann V2. Looking out for the newer V2 now, but I may well hold on for the new tooling model whenever it is released. I would love a kit built version, but I wouldn't know where to start with one, and I certainly can't afford to buy one built and running! Chris
  12. Can anybody assist me? I'm after the gradient profile for the ex NER Richmond branch in North Yorkshire. Can't seem to find it anywhere online... Chris
  13. I think you could be right Tony, I’ll certainly have a look at their rodding and buy a sample to see how I get on with it. It might be a good way to try and improve my soldering skills, which apart from a half decent attempt at an etched nickel silver GCR signalbox kit in 2mm scale several years ago, have been limited to wiring up my layouts. Chris
  14. Thank you for that Tony, Your point rodding is extremely impressive, I may have to give the MSE stuff a try. These are my pitiful efforts with the Wills rodding, I was blissfully unaware of the MSE rodding at the time. I don’t think I did too badly, considering how fiddly the parts were and how difficult they were to glue. It was all laid down before the house move, when I only had space to have the turntable and loco shed on the opposite side of the line to the real Richmond, something that is now happily changed due to the increased space available! Chris
  15. Tony, Sorry to change the subject, but I’m intrigued by your point rodding! What is it made from? I attempted to make some using the Wills point rodding kit, it didn’t look too bad, but as I’ve altered the track layout on Richmond I’ve had to rip most of it up. The Wills rodding is really fiddly and on the fragile side, so I wondered what alternatives are out there..... Chris
  16. Thank you Grahame. There are some things that I really need to change to make it look more realistic, changing the first stanchion for something that looks more like an ornate cast iron post and less like part of a garden plant growing pole! The station roof is in dire need of replacement, the last 45 years haven't been the kindest to it unfortunately. Chris
  17. Hi Andy, Thank you, I really enjoyed using the stock for the comparison shots, I need to get hold of some editing software(or ask my wife to hold up a large sheet of white paper/card behind the layout) to hide the ladders. I'm keeping an eye out for more photos of Richmond so that I can do a couple more. There a couple of a K1 shunting the goods yard, but they will be while coming as the goods yard is still a 'building site'! Chris
  18. Thank you. The lamps are on the list of things to do, I do have one coach with a tail lamp fitted if that helps?! I’m still very much at the track testing phase at the moment, so hopefully things will develop more toward the end of summer. It was fun recreating the scenes, and I’m looking forward to trying again once I’ve got ballast and scenery in place Chris
  19. Thanks for the correction. Will edit my post accordingly.
  20. Evening all, I thought I would share these two images with you, two photographs of Richmond Station, and my attempts at recreating them on my layout As yet there's a distinct lack of any detailing on the platform inside the train shed, the gentleman who built it left it pretty much blank as he couldn't see it, the same applies for the inside of the train shed roof, something I may have to rectify soon. The head code on my DMU is incorrect, as is the destination blind, and there's no yellow panel or electrification flashes, and the secondman's side doesn't have a wiper, but its not a bad recreation! I didn't quite get the angle right on this one, and my Standard 3 tank, while weathered, is nowhere near as filthy as the one in the original photo! Some details are missing from my train shed roof, the metal plates hiding the rotten timber on the original, some of the support detail and most importantly, ballast, but these are all things soon to be put right. Apologies for the ladders and garage door in the background, I really need to get my hands on some photo editing software and have a play with the settings. First coach in both shots is a Thompson non gangway brake, second vehicle in the original is a lavatory composite(I think), which I currently don't own. Anyway, I hope you like these... Chris
  21. Thats great Richard thank you! Will look into doing that then, as it will save me a bit of diesel, and I can have a beer or two in the process too!
  22. I'm not good with photo editing or I'd have replaced the background with something more appropriate ;-)
  23. Did another one this afternoon, not quite got the angle right on it though!
  24. Somebody had posted a colour photo of Richmond on Facebook earlier, so I thought I’d show the original and my take on it....
