  1. I wanted to see what the platform would look like, so I’ve laid out the Peco concrete platform sides in their rough positions. This will enable me to increase train lengths(with main line stock) from the present 4 coaches to 6, depending on the loco, and suburban stock can increase to 7 coaches. Bottom photo shows the track laid for the number 1 carriage siding. Looking forward to getting the track extended some more then I’ll wire it up and test it
  2. Flexi track temporarily laid to check stock clearances, lifted the curves here to ease them out a little bit
  3. track added to the new station extension board along what will be platform 2/passenger dock and pointwork laid out for the loco run round crossover and carriage sidings access, with holes cut for point motors
  4. More photos of recent work, limited to RMWeb’s 10MB limit for photo uploads so this is the layout in the course or being re erected, with the middle board altered and lengthened and the two fiddle yard boards on the left modified to sit at the same height as the rest of the layout
  5. Good morning! Having neglected this thread yet again I thought I’d give you an update! Those of you that are members of the LNER Modellers Facebook group will have already seen this as I post regularly in there. I’ve unfortunately had to take a leave of absence from work due to my wife being on the vulnerable list for CVD19, so I’ve managed to crack on with insulating and boarding out my garage. This is now complete and I have been able to not only reassemble the layout, but also make a start on extending it, adapting the new fiddle yard baseboards and even make a start laying some track! See what you think to my photos
  6. Not much to report on the layout of late, I’ve recently moved house and the layout is now in the garage, with enough room to extend it by several feet, allowing me to run longer trains and have a lot more room in the goods yard and loco shed areas, not to mention doubling the length of my fiddle yard! I’m currently awaiting time and money to spend insulating the garage to make it a bit more habitable during the winter months, so I’ve recently turned my attention to the growing number of Ian Kirk Gresley suburban coaches I’ve been accumulating. Most of them were purchased in varying states of completeness, and some were already built but in need of remedial work. So I decided I’d try to convert a couple of them into articulated twin sets, and the photos below are some of my efforts so far. Those of you who may know me from the LNER Modellers group on Facebook will have seen my progress over the last few weeks, so apologies for any repetition! Further photos can be uploaded on request
  7. Hi all, ive recently acquired an Ian Kirk Diagram 105/106 articulated third/third kit, kit number 8861, but there’s no instructions with it. Does anybody have any they could scan/copy and send me please? I'm told there’s also possibly a few missing parts, but I don’t know what’s missing, and the instructions would go a long way toward sorting out what’s there and what’s not. Chris
  8. Thought I’d post a couple more photos as I have neglected the thread! I’m currently working on an extension to the main baseboard so that I can extend the goods yard and make it look more like the real Richmond. This extension is 4 feet long by 6 inches wide, and will enable me to extend the road through the goods shed across the front of the station at a lower level than the forecourt, and also to extend a very short siding in front of the goods shed into two sidings that can hold the better part of two full goods trains(a full train being approximately the same length as a 3 coach passenger train, that’s the max my fiddle yard can hold). The photos show the new extension in place and a length of track in the approximate location for the new goods shed road. Sadly the size of my room means I’m not going to be able to fit a backscene behind the end of the station, as there’s no space at all for it. This will have to wait until I’ve moved to a larger house with either a larger room or a garage.
  9. Thanks for the kind words, yes the layout is set in the 50’s/60’s. I’ve got a copy of Ken Hoole’s book too, has got a lot of photos of Richmond I hadn’t seen before, and plenty of ideas for improving the layout
  10. Hi all, I’m Chris and I’m one of the admins in the LNER Modellers Facebook group. This is my layout Richmond, based on the terminus of the ex NER branch line from Darlington. It’s still very much a work in progress, but I’d like to share it with you! I also have a YouTube channel of the same name, and if you feel so inclined you can see my progress from bare baseboards to the current state of affairs...
  11. I remember it being installed, the post is an original GCR signal post apparently and the signal was an LNER development. Chris
  12. The signal you took a picture of at Quorn on the GCR is a mechanical searchlight, basically a semaphore signal without an arm and with a searchlight head. MAS signals are commonly used in absolute(semaphore) block areas, usually 2 aspect, but 3 aspect signals are used, the auto distant signals at Quorn are one example, and the 3 aspect signals at Leicester Central were probably semi automatic, the red and yellow aspects being controlled directly by the controlling signalbox, and the green aspect showing only if the next signal or all of the following signals controlled by that box are cleared. Different signalling rules apply to absolute block, which can be all semaphores or a mix of semaphore and colour light, and the more modern track circuit block, which is all colour light signalling. Chris
  13. Just had a quick comparison between a real B1 and O1, the running plate where it curves round to the buffer beam is a whole lot shallower on an O1, and I've already cut this part off my body so I can file it down before soldering back on. Not got any further with it, as I need to strip the paint from the body and tidy it up. Need some more grinding tools for my Dremel though... Chris
  14. Also, where did you get the LNER CCT kit from? I'd love a few of those for my parcels train... Chris
  15. Cheers for the info on the O1, I can see I've got a long way to go with mine! The picture I uploaded before shows the body resting on the chassis, just so I could see what it looked like compared to yours. the driving wheels are sitting on the rails due to the pony truck fouling the buffer beam. The buffer beam and curved part of the running plate isn't as deep as mine is, did you cut it off and take some material off it to make it shallower? Milliput wasn't something I had considered, but I think looking at yours that's the way to go! Chris
  16. Hi Simon, I'd like some assistance, I'm attempting a Thompson O1 out of a kit built Langley B1 and a Farish 8F chassis. The chassis has had the motor and wiring ripped out, and I was going to go down the Union Mills tender route to power it. Not sure how to go about fixing the body to the chassis or making it sit right. I know the running boards down the side of the boiler are too high on the B1, not too bothered about that, but I'm not sure how high the body should sit on the chassis, or how the body fits to the chassis at the back. Also what is the best way to modify the running plate at the front where it curves down to the buffer beam? I was intending to keep the coupling on the pony truck, but it's not massively important if I don't... Chris
  17. I'm a tad annoyed to see the GC signalbox now released in N, 6 months after I paid to have 2 GC boxes made as etches, and still waiting for me to pluck up the courage to attempt to build them! Farish need to get a move on and release the GC goods shed in N too! And maybe some GC locos too? A5 tank, Sir Sam Fay or Lord Faringdon anybody? Chris
