Andy, I think I can totally compare your layout to the ones I mentioned. I don’t think you should put yourself down because you don’t think your layout is to the same standard, I disagree and think that your layout is to a high standard, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching the videos you’ve posted and reading through the thread. It’s still a work in progress, as is mine. Ive really enjoyed your attention to detail with the train formations, and I’m extremely jealous of your Kirk quad-art sets! I’ve built several Kirk Gresley suburban coach kits recently, and converted some of them into articulated twin sets too. I don’t know if I’m adventurous or skilled enough to attempt altering a Bachmann Thompson coach with brass sides or even building a brass kit, as my soldering isn’t great! I do want to build some MSE signals though. Keep up the great work. Chris

It’s always a massive pleasure to see LNER/ECML layouts, they’re like catnip to me! I’m building an North Eastern region layout at the moment. It’s far from complete but seeing layouts like yours, Gilbert’s and Tony Wright’s really inspire me Chris

Hi Andy, This is one amazing layout! Going to waste some time today reading through the entire thread and watching some of your videos! Chris G

Fitted the DCC Concepts stay alive tonight, it’s not the same sort as the ‘Kung Fu’, so I’ve ordered one from Digitrains. Chris G -

Aah! That was your article? I was trying to remember which magazine this article was in, thank you! Chris G -
Hi, I have a Bachmann J72 fitted with their Next 18 decoder, I’d like to fit a DCC Concepts stay alive cap to it, how do I go about doing this please? Chris G

How do you guys run your layouts? I’d quite like to have an operating sequence or timetable once Richmond is at a point where I can run trains, but I have no idea how to go about setting up an operating/running sequence other than just running trains in and out of the station etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Chris G

Yeah A5/2, I don't even know if the kits are still available. And having never built a loco kit before I'm reluctant to try! Chris G

Hi Grahame, It's definitely possible! I'm building Richmond in North Yorkshire, based around a model of the station buildings I bought nearly 2 years ago. I'm having to compress the station track layout slightly, to take account of the space I have and the curves I have to put in to get the layout around the walls of my garage. Don't think that I've simplified the layout much as it was pretty simple to begin with, but I have had to omit at least 2 sidings as a compromise to fit the layout on my baseboards(which were built with a different location in mind!) and I can't fit in the coal drops either. It will however, have the feel and look of the real Richmond(I hope!), when its complete.... Chris G

I'm after an A5, as they were staple motive power on the Richmond Branch in the late 1950's before the advent of DMU's(and they still ran after that too). Just one would do, I'll keep my eyes peeled for them on eBay, but they're very sought after so I may have to dig deep into my pockets after the lockdown has ended
-
I cant disagree there! The A5 is one of the most beautiful tank engines ever built! Shame there isn’t one available rtr, as the kit built models seem to fetch silly money on eBay at the moment Chris G

Some consider Robinson's 1B(LNER L1/L3) as an ugly locomotive, I don't see it myself, as a lifelong GCR fan I agree, and Robinson never designed an ugly loco! Chris G

Hi John, nice to see another local modeller! I'm literally just up the road from you in Derby Chris G -
Hi Gilbert, Love your layout, its a real masterpiece and captures the spirit of Peterborough North in steam days perfectly! Didn't realise you are in Nottingham, I live in Derby now but lived in Nottingham until last summer. We must have been virtual neighbours! I'm building a layout just off the ECML in North Yorkshire, also a real location, my chosen place is Richmond, at the end of a short branch from Darlington. I'm a relative newcomer to RMWeb, having mostly posted stuff on Facebook or on YouTube. Chris G

Used some stock to check clearances, it all seems ok so far! I switched a straight point on the Up main for a curved one, seems to have helped make the curves a bit gentler -

Here is some of my current work, at the back is a Kirk twin set that I’ve been building for the last few weeks, and front is a 3rd brake and full 3rd that I’m converting into another twin. Chris -

I can't take credit for the building I'm afraid, they were built in 1975 by Louis Heath. I'm doing my best to preserve and improve on his work. The train shed roof will need replacing soon as it hasn't stood the test of time and has warped quite badly. I've managed a couple of field trips out to the real Richmond and have taken plenty of photographs for reference. I've only been able to start on the layout again in the last couple of days as I've had to insulate and board out the garage to keep the damp out and make it a nicer place to be, so in the mean time I've been busy building Ian Kirk Gresley suburban coaches, and converting some of them into articulated twin sets. Whoops! Thought I'd put my name at the bottom! I'm Chris, and my Layout is Richmond North Yorkshire(I do have a thread for it on here that I occasionally update, I do have a YouTube channel and post regularly on one or two groups on Facebook), it's still vey much in its infancy, but I'm hoping to make steady progress in the coming months. One more for this morning, before my wife makes me start any decorating, thought I'd share with you my track plan. Richmond as you may know was a real station in Richmond in North Yorkshire, and I have based my track pan on that provided to me by the Signalling Record Society, but flipped 180 degrees as that's the way the layout is orientated, and slightly altered to take into account the compromises I've had to make to get the track plan to fit into the space I had available -

Good morning Jonathan, thought I'd say hi here as well on the LNER Modellers group! Loving your thread, there's some truly beautiful stock here. Puts my efforts with my Kirk twin sets to shame and shows me up for the novice I am! Chris -

Good morning Tony, I'm a relative newcomer to RMWeb, and was completely unaware of your thread! am just having a quick look through some of the more recent posts and thought I would say hello! I was also prompted to say hi after a conversation with our mutual friend Jesse Sim a few weeks ago on the LNER Modellers Facebook group. I don't interact much on here, something I'm going to change over the coming weeks as I have time off work to continue with my layout Richmond.
