  1. That's really saddening to hear and sad that such attitudes do persist. I'm quite comfortable in calling people out on it saying "I don't think like that and I don't agree because... ".

I'd love to see more cultural diversity in the hobby but I understand why that may take a long time to happen (irrespective of unpleasant beliefs). Ally Pally is usually the most diverse show of the year but it's in no way representative.

I also, to be frank, have greying hair, poor fashion sense, am a bit overweight and often have Halfords paint on my fingers.

See, most of us are trying to make you feel at home. 😉

I'd be surprised given how much chatter there was in the trade for 3-4 years before the announcement that Hornby were going deep into it.

The NYMR fares now look to me to be rather good value, even though at first glance they appear to be rather expensive.

Most lines on the list have something to offer in terms of destination and journey appeal and when taking non-enthusiasts into account it's why I struggle to justify the GC in VFM beyond a nice reservoir view. Another aspect to look at is journey duration; will do that some point.

    Great for galas etc. though.

I'm having a holiday in Pickering this year. As I live over 3 hours drive away from NYMR being able to return as often as I like isn't much use. I could afford to spend £99 on a pair of tickets if I wanted but feel it is just too much. The couple we are going with feel exactly the same. That's four potential customers the NYMR has thrown away with its ticket price policy. Yes I know there are cheaper returns for shorter journeys but the headline price kind of puts me off looking further. Anyway its more interesting to see a train working through the countryside than it is to be riding in it.  I'm more likely to visit a few places and have a few walks near the line than buy a freedom of the line ticket.

A freedom of the line ticket for one day booked more than three days in advance on the Severn Valley Railway would cost £50 for two tickets - pretty much half the price of the NYMR. The SVR is 16 miles whereas the NYMR is 24 miles from Pickering to Whitby.

Being from similar areas we would probably make similar comparative assessments in VFM terms

Of course there are reasons for wanting to or being able to travel on a specific line beyond the price per mile and many much shorter lines are disproportionately dearer but I thought I'd quickly look at some of the big names. Because it's good value we often take guests on the SVR for a pleasant run. Equally we could take them to the GCR but don't.

Has any brand offering UK subject models tried going to market with no DCC ready option?

Peco only did the N gauge Collett Goods as DCC fitted  and production finished around 2010 I think.

So to be clear, I thought a man on YouTube was spouting conspirational rubbish about a hidden under land within Bridgnorth and so far people have been telling me it's not so far fetched.

Note to self, if travelling on the SVR don't leave the platform at Bridgnorth, in fact stay on the train and lock the compartment door.😲

Surprised Discovery channels haven't made multi-part documentaries about the place https://www.historytoday.com/hitlers-british-lair

I found a chap on YouTube with what appears to be some theories about a sub terranean element to Bridgnorth based on all the basement windows and bricked up 'windows' he saw about town.  He also had theories about ice houses not really being ice houses in another video of a different place.

I think he would be very interested in the idea that there might exist a subterranean engine shed, if only he could find 'what lies beneath' Bridgnorth.  He might wet his pants if he found the 'hidden' gated north end of the tunnel in the woodland

It's full of little people; they had to go live down there when a new leisure centre was built.

The designers think about how the loco is assembled in the assembly plant and keeping a lid on production costs, on the principle that the market wants low retail prices and once it's out of the factory it's your problem, not as a deliberate policy but simply because there is no profit in considering the ease with which consumers/customers can dismantle the model, and therefore this is not considered.

Not necessarily. If end users have problems with getting inside or maintaining a model it will increase returns to stockist or manufacturer when things go wrong resulting in costs.

Would it be too much for instructions to state the type and size of screwdriver that should be used?

Credit where it's due; I've spoken to the relevant party and they've taken the point on board and will look to improve the instructions.

One little case at Ally Pally, off to the side.  In the biggest show?  In the biggest city?   That's bad, by any measure.

not at AP, perhaps that might be a reflection of the type of custom it attracts and cost for the stand than anything else...

I'm sure if traders had got stock they'd have had it on the stands. Why wouldn't they? Are they hiding it from customers? 😉

It is hard to get people to do the jobs needed to in order to manufacture it

I don't think so; there are multiple factories in China offering their services. I get a couple of approaches a month as they think I'm a potential customer.

TT120 is an easier product to assemble than much of the current 4mm output; fewer parts, less separately fitted detail.

The comment about Ally Pally seems to be true.

I was there and there was indeed only one stall which showed TT120.

    So how is that opinion?

One part is possible but there's a whole basket load of barmy bits.

There seems to be a surpisingly common belief that there's something off about the scale - that the coaches are being made to a different scale to the locos

Go on; tell me more how that's based on fact.

I regularly grow a longer thumbnail for this (and operating camera thumbwheels) but I have many plastic razor blades around for feeling where they are. Or if you can get a fine spudger.

most modellers in TT (TT:120) aren't on RMWeb.

No; are they all on Facebook then? Are they all buying customers? Are they all modellers? Nobody will know.

Between them (and I've just been on each in turn and double-checked) they currently have 12,114 members.

That is twelve thousand one hundred and fourteen.

Are none of them members of more than one Facebook group? It sounds like you are Les.

That's as skewed as Ravenser-reasoning at the other end of the spectrum.

Let's just accept that there are reasonable levels of interest, obviously sufficient to maintain Hornby's ongoing interest.
