  1. I have contributed nothing but look forward to your advice and encouragement as I expect do many others and would be very disheartened and sad if we did not have you about to add your wisdom and learned thoughts on the hobby Tony, along with the advice and encouragement of others on here. Far too many to mention, but that is what makes this the best thread on here.
  2. Totally agree Clem. Life is full of the right way of doing things until you discover which is the wrong way. Regards
  3. Having read an earlier post on this thread "There is no shame in trying but failing. However, there is nothing but shame in failing to try." I have decided to take up kit building locomotives. Now I am very lucky in that I have the ear of "Sir" so certain complications can be addressed but we do live with a fair part of the country between us so it would be nice to find an equivalent of "Sir" down here (and yes I realise there can only be one Tony Wright Railway raconteur, layout designer, author, photographer, editor and kit maker etc etc). The above did make me wonder if that is the reason so few are taking the kit route up as it is nice, an advantage, to have guidance from someone sitting down with you, almost a confidence builder you could say. Perhaps this is not available to many and puts them off. Regards Peter
  4. I cannot find it using the search so confirming your "it has been taken down". Perhaps the government and its agencies should talk to Tony as an alternative to co operative hackers. Regards Peter
  5. All my talks ( I give about four a month during various work phases) start with "Good morning / afternoon ladies, gentlemen, boys, girls and those who are not sure" have not had a complaint so far.........
  6. All I have to say after having a peruse of said 326 comments I am unsurprised how many have been written without thought and just immediate comment. I am back to this earlier comment of mine on this wonderful thread which is if someone disagrees they should go away and see if they can see the point of view expressed by the author and judge from a balanced voice not one of immediate hostility and sense of reasoning.
  7. Hi Tony Read the digital copy this morning nothing offensive in there, some structured comments that someone might take umbrage with, but that is up to them. If they cannot handle someone else's point of view if it does not meet their own, hard luck. Sometimes by listening to others rather than arguing or ranting at them you get a more balanced view of matters. Part of the problem now is that the generation who have been brought up on electronic devices have lost the art of conversation, discussion and reason with their fellow humans, I I think we are heading for some difficult times soon as a race of people. Regards
  8. Hi Rob What magazines are you disposing of ? Regards Peter
  9. Thank you Tony, the images are deceptive as I thought. As an aside it must be the equivalent of a cable harnesser's jigsaw puzzle, I like to think I know what I am doing electrically and from what I have seen in the images that must have taken a while to sort out. Regards Peter
  10. Thank you t-b-g for the reply, after watching a DVD of some popular layouts this evening I am going to insert a 2ft x 2ft board across the entry area and at least have a couple of running lines plus the two terminuses. I now need to look up draw bridge construction or leave it as a crawl under. One day after some lessons I hope to get started on some locomotive builds and show the layout on here P.S. Approx what size is the Buckingham / Leighton Buzzard layout as it appears to be smaller than imagined in the images available, but then dependant on the photographer who took the pictures and his angle of view. Regards Peter
  11. Hi Tony As I keep trying to say, but not very eloquently I admit, yours and others modelling work over the decades has not deteriorated in the slightest because you have all that experience to call on. I am lucky like Tim L in that although a decade older than him I am new to this journey so therefore I am trying to catch up in terms of learning from the masters on this thread. I am absolutely fighting at the door too spend some days of tutelage with the likes of yourself and others on here to learn the craft and get fresh ideas. A prime example is this afternoon I have come in to cook dinner at 3.30pm rather than later (disturbing her ladyships Netflix routine) because I am finishing my baseboards and don't know wether to go round and round or end to end as per Buckingham style. Don't have anyone to talk to who likes this subject, bit of a "Billy no mates" really . Still onwards and upwards . Regards Peter
  12. Just admiring your work Arthur. Please keep posting and commenting or even if it is past work. Regards Peter
  13. Hello Arthur but your "O Gauge" work is superb as well and is possible only 2.5 years old I understand. I am a great believer in that as you age and have learnt your crafts it just takes longer to build or construct but the quality will still be there. If you are in your seventies or eighties your work is still outstanding along with several others on here. Long may it continue Peter.
  14. Blimey Arthur if as you posted in post 30588 is anything to go by you are not in decline you are more refined like a fine single malt or wine. Regards Peter
  15. Do not want to start an equivalent of rage wars but to me most of the modelling on here could be called finescale it is that good. I shall now go back to my corner. Regards Peter
  16. Hello Gilbert I use a colour calibrated iMac and on the image there is a white blob above the engine probably halfway to the horizon. Sorry to point it out but it is there. Regards Peter
  17. That is superb work Arthur, seasons greetings to you. Regards Peter
  18. May I take this opportunity to say whatever you believe in, from railways to gods, please have a safe and enjoyable Xmas break and I look forward to seeing you all on here in the coming weeks and months. Regards Peter
  19. Here you go. anality : Psychoanalysis. the condition or quality of having an anal character; collectively, the personality traits characteristic of the anal stage of psychosexual development. Most impressed by the knowledge of the English language on here. Regards Peter
  20. I wonder if this was posted elsewhere on this BRM forum how many people would look up the words axiomatically, anachronistic and something as simple to us as the acronyms WTT and RTR. Regards Peter
  21. I really like the quality of that scene from your layout.
  22. I now have this vision of thousands of wagon reference books being dusted off from where they have been placed years ago and re read just because of a comment about a wagon on a certain layout being possibly 1mm out. If everyone on here who does check against said books admits to how many wagons are wrong on there layout I would like to know how many that is..... Yes I am that sad, well occasionally anyway. Regards Peter
  23. Congratulations Tony and to all the contributors on what is the best thread on the forum. Regards Peter
  24. Thank you all for the book suggestions most informative. Regards Peter
  25. Superb, these do not need and further explanation ! Regards Peter
