  1. Oh dear I am a tad over 5 foot 8 inches weigh 15 stone and my doctor goes into raptures because I am still alive I played a certain sport professionally to the highest level and still weighed 13 stone. Still I do have something, it is called fibromyalgia, so I have some excuse. Regards Peter
  2. Hi all. As an aside is Loch Tat the layout as good as it looks in the magazine articles I have read, it was one of the layouts that sparked my interest in N Gauge. Regards Peter
  3. Hi Tony . No point in me approaching you for a book signing at Southampton with a packet of digestives then, and with a fat belly Regards Peter
  4. Have to agree one of the best of 2017 or any year. Regards Peter
  5. Hi Tony Have to say the best forum topic on the railway modelling net, to which may I add a very good Christmas and New Year to Mo and yourself and to all the other participants on this thread. Long may it continue. Regards Peter
  6. That first image the dark toned one absolutely wonderful Regards Peter
  7. Hi Martin Mini-MSW depicting the Woodhead route on a 4ft 6in circular board has a burnt out car and scorched area I believe, worth a look at the layout anyway as it is of an interesting design. Regards Peter
  8. I have an interest in freight over the period 1970 to present day so I can get away with a four track rectangle ( 12ft x 7ft ) running as "Fast Up Down" and "Slow Up Down". It can represent anywhere in the UK as long as I can build and run the consist of say 6A18 from Robeston to Theale of fuel tanks behind what was in the eighties frequently a Class 47 or say the Speedlink service in the Erewash valley hauled by a Class 31. Because of my outlook to this I am constantly obtaining reading material on the subject and also giving myself the task of finding the wagons, kit or RTR, of these consists so I can build, reassemble and run them. I took this attitude to my railway modelling when having finally settled down after what could be described as a colourful and eventful first fifty five years on the planet my permanent home with my partner Patsy does not allow a layout to represent a specific spot probably on the Great Western region as if it did it would be at scale a few hundred yards worth at most. Apologies for the ramble and punctuation. Regards Peter
  9. Hi Tony At least your TVR was keeping you company for 11 years, I had a Cortina Savage a "slightly modded car" by Jeff Uren in Middlesex. Drove it for 6 months, got fed up with the constant changes of underwear and decided to part with it while I was still alive. Regards Peter
  10. Hmmmmm, faces on books and little bird noises ! what mainline are they about ? Regards Peter
  11. Hi Tony . The image labelled "A candid view into the goods yard sees a J6 fussing with some wagons on pick-up duty" brings it all together. Regards Peter
  12. Thank you for the reply Jonathan, I do need to do some more studying of wagons of all the groups let alone the LNER and its constituents. Regards Peter
  13. Hi Tony The boxes hanging from the underframe, are these for batteries or something else? If batteries what did they power? Regards Peter
  14. Agree with your text above wholeheartedly, although it is not that much over a century ago where infestations, stand pipes, a roofed outside lav'y and oil lamps were for the lucky few such was the poor standards for those in the wider countryside. Regards Peter
  15. You can call it "horses for courses" or "everybody's interpretation is different" or any other lateral reference you name, but to me personally they are all superb and something that I would / can only aspire too. If I can get anywhere near any of those layouts in terms of quality of work and effort then, well I will go to the end of my lifetime a happier person. Regards Peter
  16. Good grief a very similar path to myself, but I suppose there are many of us in reality who took this route. Mine was guided by the factor that I did not have any parents around by the time I was sixteen and my aunt needed a financial incentive / contribution to keep me in food and clothes rather than throw me onto the streets. The determination to become an electrical engineer in the generating industry was driven by not wanting to be penniless again, although it got close to that once later in life. I wonder what drove the industrial cities of European states across the channel to carry on where we dropped of in the "Heavy Industries" perhaps in some cases it is that lack of top tier hierarchy. Apologies for going off topic but felt compelled to contribute.
  17. Hi Tony Would you be kind enough to post a picture of this unit when it is fully complete I have a feeling it will make a lot of us who visit this thread very content. Regards Peter
  18. Wow, what a fantastic kit and built beautifully, can i ask how long it took to build? Apologies in advance if I have missed this fact in the topic elsewhere. Regards Peter
  19. Hi Tony A picture of the Mallard Free House in 1981 in the main street shows no road markings!I would safely assume, always a dangerous thing, that they did not exist until at least 1986 when I believe new traffic laws were introduced nationwide. Regards Peter
  20. I have my Locospotters annual from 1963 and it is priced at 7/6d I am sure my parents bought it for me. Also just looked at that and all my railway photographers books by Casserley, Hepburn, Earley, The Rev Newman, Preistley, Wethersett and Cross plus others because this layout has inspired me to look at images of the Shap area. So thank you for that motivation. A great and evocative layout in the making i think. Regards Peter
  21. I really like that, something Mr Wingate my English Literature teacher would have applauded. Regards Peter
