  1. Isn't she a beauty, in fact a proper locomotive
  2. That is outstanding, great work. Regards Peter
  3. Agree with Lecorbusier I would put a soft box on a photographers studio light and create a diffused light situation just making sure the light mimics the angle and compass direction for the occasion modelled. Regards Peter
  4. Hi Mike The prejudiced idea might have come from your statement So a "modern image" layout isn't going to get a look in then? What happened to a balanced panel of judges?. If that is meant in a different context then please explain as it infers all the judges were totally steam or transition period biased which without knowing them personally is a little unfair. Regards Peter
  5. I attended the Southampton exhibition on the Saturday and my immediate thoughts after my first walk around were that Banbury, Kitedale, Cornwallis Yard and Wickwar were very good and held my attention. After my afternoon excursion through the halls I enjoyed my revisits to Banbury, Wickwar (which had a lovely block working system) and Kitedale. As an aside, and this is only my perception, the largest gatherings of visitors were around BurntisIsland, Wickwar, Merstone and Victoria which always had people around its frontage but then was stuffed into the furthest corner of the halls. BurntisIsland was epic and beautiful in its scale and workmanship but has so much of it that was static and unused, a few more moving items would have helped. I was also impressed by Brixham Bay but a rather large gentleman of a residence with no shower or bath was continually viewing it whenever I got to it and so I have to admit its charm never had that long to work on me. In these politically correct times I realise I am on a hiding to nothing here but why is it that a proportion of Britains model railway enthusiasts at exhibitions need to visit a barbers, wash their clothing, clean their fingernails and hands and generally could do with a visit to the local baths. Regards and apologies for the rant. Peter
  6. One of the joys of finding this and Wright Writes thread. Still it only took me 3 months to get an outline of what had happened Regards Peter
  7. Hi Tony You are spot on as i have Westerns and Warships in my Westbourne adventures and loads of tank engines used as carriage shunters although I can remember odd days of steam only. I am too young for steam only and I am in my sixties. Please keep this thread running as I find it fascinating even if this is not what the main course of it is meant to be. Regards Peter
  8. I do not remember being on my own watching and recording locomotives and stock at any time I visited Westbourne Park, there were always at least a dozen other enthusiasts on the dividing platform end. If I go to my local station now, which is Eastleigh, i do not see more than four there at any one time which seeing the comments above sounds quite good actually. Regards Peter
  9. Thanks for posting these Eric. Regards Peter
  10. My "tiny" criticism of the black and white image the other evening has resulted in me looking at this forum only on the iMac, to which the black and white image you have just posted looks very good. The retina unit (laptop) is being sold and i will give a brief outline why when we possibly get a couple of minutes to discuss. Regards Peter
  11. Nice images Tony. Regards Peter Edited for grammar.
  12. Hi Tony Paterson and chemicals were my go too, heaven knows what it did to our internal breathing apparatus. Regards Peter
  13. All The image itself is fine, focused where you would expect correct depth of field as I mentioned earlier, hence now I look at it again on the iMac (which is not Retina) it is perfectly natural and sharp. Perhaps my laptop is at fault and I need to investigate further using these screens with software interpolation that produce a Retina display. As said I apologise for any offence and will not be using my MacBook Pro for looking at images on the forum until I investigate further. Regards Peter
  14. Good morning have just finished a very brief test this morning and it was my tired eyesight causing a perception that my images are soft therefore if i look at others (black and white) on my MacBook Pro only they do seem what I refer to as ultrasharp, it does not happen on my iMac. Please may I stress that it does not appear to happen with any colour images or those toned slightly towards the sepia range. For the record my laptop is colour balanced and corrected. When I commented the colour image also shown in Tony's comment is beautiful and sharp and exactly what I would expect from Tony with the right depth of field and probably using a high quality prime lens. I like to think I am one of the first on here to recognise the standard of photography and like / agree those. Booking an eye test this week in case my work is being affected when I am tired. Regards Peter
  15. Hi Tony My apologies if I have offended or upset your good self, and as an image in it's own right it is excellent but now having gone back to your other black and white images I realise they are all of the same high quality and the edges of each item where you intended to focus and within the depth of field are ultra sharp. i have also spent the whole evening working on images from my Olympus EM1 and I think (perhaps certain now) that there softness is influencing my judgement. May I be nosey and ask are you using a Nikon D5 or one of the Canon 1DX models with a high dynamic range and high density sensor? Again no offence meant, I will come back and look at the black and white one in the morning when my eyes have had some rest from photography. Regards Peter
  16. I like the black and white as well, the only very small criticism, and I mean tiny, is that it looks slightly over sharpened although it might be just the colour conversion that has given a the very sharp edge to everything. That is not to take away from an excellent image of an excellent layout. Regards Peter
  17. Nice locomotives and well constructed. Regards Peter
  18. I always took it to be the Allen Manufacturing Company. Regards Peter P.S. Nice workmanship Tony.
  19. Again a great image is no. 2 looks almost real, not over weathered as some are. Bye the way image image no.1 is not bad.
  20. The second image (the sepia one or similar too ) is very good. Regards Peter
  21. Nor can I, assume another layout sketch is on the drawing or graph paper. Regards Peter
  22. Read it straight through first time Not sure that does not say a lot about how my brain works. Regards Peter
  23. That is one very good image, I keep coming back to it which suggests, to my small brain, that this is how a model railway should look, similar in many ways to Tony's work. Regards Peter
