FYI I Emailed Hornby about this and within about two hours I had a guy called John on the phone. To cut a long conversation short he told me that Hornby avoid all the supposedly top name superglues like Loctite, Bostik and Gorilla Glue - they use the stuff that you get 3 tubes for £1 at Poundland. I went and bought 6 tubes like you do and they appear to have worked. 3 days at York will probably be the proof of the pudding but they seem OK. Thanks fr the replies though - one from a million miles away and one from where I was born - near to 75A.

Well I've tried 3 different superglues - two gels and a fluid and all have failed. I'll try to contact Simon K. I wonder if he'll be at the York show. Maybe he'll read this and approach us on the Ladycross layout.

I think that credit should be given to Steve Batty for the magnificent station building and warehouse. If anyone thinks they might recognise the station, I showed Steve some photos of the stations at New Milton and Hinton Admiral and told him it needed to be reversed. He did the rest including measurements by counting bricks ! Similarly the warehouse is an amalgam of two or three SCATS warehouses in the Hampshire area. that we could find photos of. The layout has had one outing so far at the 2017 Hull Show. Since then we've done quite a bit of work on it, especially in the fiddle yard. We are booked in York at Easter and there are tentative discussions about it being at Hull Show again in November. We'll see.

Ladycross is the new BR Southern Region steam layout from Hull MRS. Set in the summer of 1962 - Southern steam experts will know why - at an imaginary station in the middle of the New Forest. We are bringing it to the York show at Easter 2019 and we'd love to meet anyone there who shares the interest in Southern Region steam. Actually that's only 3 of our group but the others will point you in our direction ! In the past I've failed miserably to get photos onto RMWeb. Hopefully these will work - apologies if not. A few more if they do.

Can anyone suggest a glue that will attach the brake rods to the locos ? We have tried all sorts and nothing seems to work.

Why not try your local community radio station ? (Yes I know - if you have one, obviously) I live in Beverley, East Yorkshire where we have Beverley FM. Some of the presenters are ex pros but most are, like me, local people who love music and are quite knowledgeable on their particular subject. We have specialist programmes every evening including from folk to reggae; from classical to jazz; and from rock and roll to show songs. I do a programme every Sunday at 5pm where I can (and do) play literally anything. I have followed Jimi Hendrix with Mrs Mills, and the full 11.3/4 minutes of the William Tell Overture with It's 'orrible being in love when you're 8.1/2. Beverley FM is available on the internet www.beverleyfm.com or on an app on smartphones. Or 107.8FM if you happen to live near me. Give us a try then come and visit Beverley - it's rather nice.

I always thought this was the case but last night one of our group (at Hull MRS) brought a Lima Class 31 diesel and ran it on our layout which is code 75. It had no problems at all. Except in my mind where a diesel in privatised livery shouldn't be anywhere near Hampshire in 1962 of course.

The excitement is building. It's the 39th Hull Model Railway Show on Saturday and Sunday 10 and 11 November. The first in our new venue - the Walton Street Leisure Centre in Hull. Details have already been posted but for those of you coming from what Hull people call "Out of Town", if you're coming from the West or over the Humber Bridge, go past our previous venue, the Costello Athletics Stadium and follow the signs for the City Centre. Walton Street is the home of Hull Fair and is the last street on your left before you reach the KCOM Stadium, home to the mighty Hull City and some other team who play with an egg-shaped ball and also take the name of our fair city. Goathland Close is on your left, fairly soon after you turn into Walton Street. If you're coming from the east, get off the Ferry and head through the city centre or if you live east of the city centre head west along Anlaby Road until you reach the flyover and the stadium, Walton Street is on your right. From the North your best bet is either come through the city down Beverley Road and turn right onto Anlaby Road after the Hull Interchange (station !) or head towards the Humber bridge and turn left at the roundabout before said bridge and head for the city centre as above. Now you know how to get there, make sure it's in your diary. See you at the weekend.

I've been asked to pint out that the layout coming is called Cayton Bay (not Caton Bay) and it is built and operated by Hessle Model Railway Group. Sorry - Please don't shoot the messenger.

I saw this layout, albeit incomplete, in August. The buildings are really good. I have to say I didn't realise how close the two bexhill stations were to each other but a look at a map shows the layout if pretty close to reality.

My Hornby M7 and Q1 both run well at slow speed if that's any help.

There are plenty of photos around of ex SECR "C" class 0-6-0s working in Dover docks

We used a mixture of RTR locos on our new layout "Ladycross" at the Hull show last November. For express trains we had Hornby Rebuilt Merchant Navy; Original and Rebuilt West Country / Battle of Britain; King Arthur and Schools (current and tender drive) and Bachmann Lord Nelson and Standard Class 5s. Also Hornby Grange and Bachmann Hall. All managed 10 coach trains with no problem. Maybe it's just that we are using larger radius curves but we just didn't have any problems with pulllng power.

On a slightly different point but similar - can anyone give a reason why, when you by a pack of Preiser peacocks, you get 2 peacocks, a peahen and ..... a turkey as well ? Does anyone anywhere want a single turkey ?

As a person whose 2 hobbies are music and model railways may I say a huge "NO" to the whole idea. I pay to go and see musicians perform but I choose which ones carefully. Similarly if I want to listen to records / CDs / downloads or whatever, I have a home with the appropriate equipment. No two people have the same taste and one person's easy listening will grate on the next person's teeth. I wouldn't go to a rock gig or a classical orchestra or a solo singe with guitar and expect to see a model railway operating in the corner would I ?

May I put a word in for the Hornby Dublo Rebuilt West Country - apart from the fact that it had a tender which was only appropriate for 5 locos and not all 5 of them at any one time. Also for the time when they came out, the Triang later Hornby Mark 1 coaches were / are pretty good. I have examples of both, albeit updated and (hopefully) improved.
