It really is a shame as the prices of things become to the point of not being economic. I'd love to buy some of the printed SECR railmotor bodies but at nearly 80 for one with no frames, or bogies just puts them way above what I could afford, @rue-d-etropal does great designs but the changes with Shapeways means they will always have to be a wish., especially when the page says 78 which is a lot and in the basket its then 93, how does that work? It becomes with postage over 200 for two coach bodies and then bits on top.

Having realised this was not economic I spoke with Allen Docherty who is working on etches for me of set 514 this set is slightly different to set 513 in terms of width of the pillars and end windows. I can't wait to see them.

  2. Oh B**ger comes to mind. So I did the redundancy work and feel better ironicly now that it is shared with the managers who are working on it. We are all keeping our fingers and toes crossed that extra work which is in the pipeline and which may stop the redundancies in their tracks (we all hope)

However having got rid of that yesterday driving to work I suddenly lost hearing in one ear, felt like double vison which stopped after a minute or so but was replaced by a headache. So no driving for me till I have been seen, Just keeping my fingers crossed it was not a TIA. All I can say is if you get any symptoms get seen quickly. I am being assessed on Sunday as the symptoms went quickly.

I have managed to do some sorting of modelling bits even if I've not done any actual modelling.  Not driving means I can't take the children to their clubs they have each evening which may yet ironicly allow some modelling, if I can shake the feeling tired feeling.

I see in the latest Bluebell email that LBSCR Terrier Fenchurch will be visiting the SVR 18-21st April 24. Given it struggles to get to East Grinstead on water/coal I'm not sure how it will cope on the SVR!

Would assume a local from Kidder to Bewdley or Bridgnorth to Hampton Loade

Was at the autumn steam gala on Saturday.  Was easier to get a seat than it was at the spring gala.  Hagley Hall sounds great.  I'm not a big S160 fan but it was something different.  Mayflower seemed to have a slipping issue - it barely made it into Arley.  There are points just before the bridge, so I suppose sanders were out of the question.

Some see using sanders as a failure - male ego comes to mind. Additionally we don't use them near points. Hope you enjoyed it despite the late running

Was in a similar position before I got early retirement, have every sympathy.

Were that I had the money I would retire tomorrow.  I feel like Judus, looking at people and thinking that when people resign good thats one less person we have to let go. Its going to really ramp up next week as the CEO has said we have to push the button. I know that will put more on me, but I'm determined to be as fair as we can.

We do have an EAP and I'm going to contact agencies to see if they can help. The CEO also knows someone who did a great session in a previous organisation and is going to see if they will do the same again. The jobs market is horrible at the moment, ghosting, not many jobs so the thought of doing this weights heavily.

  6. Next Saturday marks the 60th anniversary of the closure of the the SVR as a through route. By the time of closure steam was rare , however on the last day the Western Region turned out 2 panniers 4665 and 9624 and left at 6.58pm for Snow Hill.

This Friday and Saturday (the actual anniversry) 7714 is working services (in fairness it does every week apart from on washout) but hey it makes for more of a story.

It is working the 10am from Kidderminster and 12.45 on Saturday the 9th and will be carrying a headboard (apparently)  The article says it will be on display beforehand - not sure if that means on the front of the train and we will have set back as the WTT does not tell me. Just that we are due light engine to arrive at Kidder at 11.10am.

Is 34027 still in black? Must be due in works soon.

If you look on the back of the tender it says 'I identify as lilac' - Still goes very well, and does it very well. At least for those of us who are masters of it.

  8. In a way I'm on the opposite side of the fence (at the moment) but feel just as wretched. I have a great team, they all deliver value but with Sales down I have had to do a costing excercise for everyone in the company on costs of redundancy. The one in my team that had seen the amount of work he had go down I am working hard at passing more things over to protect them as much as possibe.

I really dislike the knowing (even though its part of my job) that a team of 5 will in all likliehood be made redundant. to me it really sucks, even though I can see from the sales and the orders which have dried up it does not make it easier. The only thing I am doing is preparing my boss that I want to reach out to as many agencies as possible to try to help them having been through the same last year.

One of my family lied about his age to join the army, survived the war and ended up maintaining the lie as it was easier than untangling matters afterwards.

We found out 20 0dd years after my grandad died that he had gone one further. I remember him with a broad, loud Glaswegian accent, and we thought he was from Port Glasgow, but he had burned his birth certificate after my grandmother died before I was born.

In reasearching mum rang the phone number for his twin brothers wife, who was luckily still alive. On being asked she told us he was not born in Port Glasgow, but in Ballycastle and had got a false birth certificate to join the army.

Stock owned by a railway is often easier to use than those owned by individuals or groups.  These can be and are often limited in the number of times they are operated and are subject to steaming fees.

WCR have a black 5 from KWVR that operates the Jacobite

It might be that the SVR is thinking they are a GWR line and should concentrate upon motive power from that company.

No, it is looking at its loadings on a week by week basis and working out what it actually needs. Class 4 locomotives are big enough to run the services. Lets be clear this is not about being a GWR line or any other. Right now it is ensuring the continued survival of the line by bolstering the survival fund with a loco that has been out of use for over a decade and unlikley to be started on again for another two. It reduces the liabilities on the books .

Although it's not just abput the number of cylinders and vakvegear position when it come sot making savings.  For example an original  Bulleid pacifuic required less Driver's Preparation time than an LMS 4F 0-6-0

Well an original one, that's certainly not the case with a rebult and getting to the inside engine.

  12. Lets look at this from a number of angles.

    1) It was a company owned engine and with it having just finished Hagley Hall at a cost of about 1.5 million it is highley unlikley that an overahaul would be started inside the next 20 years. That overhaul would be over 1 million pounds in all probability.

    2) The changing nature of the railway means it is trying to operate smaller trains with smaller engines. The most efficent loco for our operation was 'the raging bull' aka 1501. Big engines are less likley to be of use moving fowards day to day.

    3) The sale helps with the survival fund which before the sale stood at just over 400K

As for where it has gone we don't know but the memes on certain groups give a good idea of where it is thought to have gone.

  13. Good evening.

I have an old DJH D20 kit, except it is just the loco with no tender. I would like to do it as one of those with the rebuilt tender top. Would I be safe (ish) basicly having a J39 tender top on top of a NER tender frame. Unfortunatley the drawing at the NRM of this tank is not scanned so realisticly is out of my price range to get a scanned copy. Does anyone know of a drawing of the tank?

    Thanks in advance
