RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted November 10, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 10, 2016 Following the announcement of a new RTR PGA by Cavalex models I said I would dig out some photos of PGAs on the Mountsorrel/Trowse circuit and eventually I've got round to starting this exercise. Please, please, please, please feel free to start your own thread, or even a general thread on PGAs but don't post photos here - unless it's photos of these workings - so as to keep the thread focused. I will ask for postings too far off topic to be deleted, not wishing to sound harsh but this thread is - hopefully- a reference for anyone interested in these workings (over the last 5 years or so - earlier if others add to it), it's easy enough to start a general thread on PGAs if anyone so desires. My YouTube contains lots of videos of these workings, all will have been photographed on the still camera so if anyone bothers to watch see a clip of a train they like, *PM* me the information from the clip - date and title will be enough - and I'll dig out the photos to go with it, sometimes they will be standard train shots, sometimes the train will have been checked and I'll have photographed every wagon, and sometimes I tried to photograph every wagon when it was passing at speed ! I am going to work *backwards* chronologically, as the most recent photos are the most readily accessible. I will also try and render / upload videos of any unusual rakes - "ministones" as I call them - to go with the photos, the more common longer rakes won't be rendered unless anyone has an interest and again they can PM me and I'll consider it (it takes time to do this so I simply can't get every one on my YouTube) The trains in question are 6L39, Mountsorrel Sdgs - Trowse Yard Redland Siding - loaded 6M43, Trowse Yard Redland Siding - Mountsorrel Sdgs - return empties. 6L47, Mountsorrel Sdgs - Trowse Yard Redland Siding - loaded 6L47 is an afternoon path down the Brecklands (Ely/Norwich) which is occasionally used for operational reasons. Occasionally the trains ran as 6Z39, 6Z43 when others things got in the way - such as level crossing failures - but they are basically the same train/ and so it begins ... To start the ball - or PGA - rolling I've gone for the easy way out .. Here's a link to my videos of the trains 6L39 6M43 If anyone searches for 6L47, they will only find engineers workings - which typically use L codes - as I haven't uploaded any videos of it yet.
Wayward Hayward
Great idea Dave, more than happy to help out with my photos from 1999-2005 and then from 2015 until the present day. First up are a few photos of different formations during 2015 and 2016. First up is the PGA rake, which was the norm for the 1990's up until 2016 in a variety of liveries Note the different height bodies and debranding on some wagons with a large black rectangle applied. 66193 Attleborough 20/02/15 by Ryan Hayward, on Flickr 66117 Eccles Wood 30/03/15 by Ryan Hayward, on Flickr 66040 Hethersett 17/04/15 by Ryan Hayward, on Flickr During 2015, rakes began to become a mix of old PGA's and freshly repainted HKA's (I think). The quantities of each varied from a couple of PGA or HKA's through to a 50/50 split. I never managed to photograph a whole rake of just HKA's, maybe Dave managed to. The HKA's were not a particularity permanent fixture, lasting only few months during the summer of 2015. 66156 Browick Road, Wymondham 28/07/15 by Ryan Hayward, on Flickr 66149 Besthorpe 29/06/15 by Ryan Hayward, on Flickr 66075 Ketteringham 27/07/15 by Ryan Hayward, on Flickr 66169 Spooner Row 06/07/15 by Ryan Hayward, on Flickr And the new arrivals in 2016, the very grey JNA or HOA wagons that started in April of this year. 66067 Hethersett 20/04/16 by Ryan Hayward, on Flickr 66127 Hethersett 08/06/15 by Ryan Hayward, on Flickr 66019 Hethersett 06/06/16 by Ryan Hayward, on Flickr Edited November 10, 2016 by Wayward Hayward

Wayward Hayward
Is the photo of 66111 on 6M43 taken from the foot crossing between Top Common bridge and Slutshole Lane Dave?
RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted November 13, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 13, 2016 Is the photo of 66111 on 6M43 taken from the foot crossing between Top Common bridge and Slutshole Lane Dave? Yep - it's a very narrow angle, when I went back a couple of weeks later it was a lot worse because of the plants on the embankment - winter should open it up

RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted November 19, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 19, 2016 Another mixed bag, after this pair (L39/M43) I will skip any mixed rakes and go back to when the PGAs ruled supreme The mixed rakes were annoying typing out the make up and then reversing it, so I wrote myself a little utility whereby I pasted the L39 description into a field and it generated the M43 description in the correct order. One advantage of developing software is any job I do regularly I knock up a program to do the grunt work, I have all sorts of utilities to parse data from websites and populate Excel spreadsheets which I use for my photo notes, anyway I digress. 29 July 2016 Eccles Road 66013 on 6L39, 06:37, Mountsorrel Sdgs - Trowse Yard Redland Siding (11:51) - loaded stone (5 HOA, 5 PGA, 5 HOA, 2 PGA, 1 JGA, 3 PGA, 1 JGA, 1 PGA) 66013 on 6M43, 18:13, Trowse Yard Redland Siding - Mountsorrel Sdgs (21:49) - empty stone (1 PGA, 1 JGA, 3 PGA, 1 JGA, 2 PGA, 5 HOA, 5 PGA, 5 HOA)

slg
Excellent pictures lets hope that Revolutions 00 tea tanks do well as they've just announced N gauge HOA hoppers. They might do 00 but only after they've actually released their first 00 model to the market.

RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted May 30, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 30, 2017 22 May 2017 saw a rather mixed rake appear on 6L39 - the stone required at Trowse has been of a different grade and has been supplied from Tunstead, powered by Freightliner for the last few weeks, so DBC are unusual at the moment. Eccles Road 66007 on 6L39, 06:37, Mountsorrel Sdgs - Trowse Yard Redland Siding (11:51) - loaded stone (9 JGA, 4 PGA, 1 HOA, 4 JGA, 2 IIA, 1 JGA) 66007JGA RMC 17214JGA RMC 17216JGA RMC 13711JGA RMC 19225JGA RMC 19230JGA RMC 19234JGA RMC 19236JGA RMC 19220JGA RMC 17235PGA REDA 14794PGA REDA 14798PGA REDA 14838PGA REDA 14795HOA 320043 (EWS Construction)JGA RMC 17242JGA RMC 17227JGA RMC 19235JGA RMC 17230IIA 33 70 6955 077-6IIA 33 70 6955 089-1JGA RMC 17201
