MrB
Hi Folks, Just incase any one is interested, I have fitted a Loksound compatable bass reflex speaker to a Bachmann class 66. The problem found was the motor intrudes below the chassis in to the tank quite a bit, this was over come with cutting the fuel tank and fitting the tank to the speaker. http://galleryroy.fotopic.net/p63728542.html http://galleryroy.fotopic.net/p63728543.html http://galleryroy.fotopic.net/p63728544.html I was able to keep the original switch for the lights in the battery box. Roy Nicely fitted. Will you be fitting a little plastic-card over the speaker as the speaker cone might be vulnerable to damage ?
MrB
Nicely fitted. Will you be fitting a little plastic-card over the speaker as the speaker cone might be vulnerable to damage ? Hi Tony, I'd thought of that in the first place, was originally going to just drill holes, but couldn't get way with it, will have to find something thin enough in time as i'm not keen having it unprotected. Thanks and regards Roy
Piemanlarger
I did a simular job with my howes 66 chip, but fitted the smaller base enhanced speaker. It was alot of work and i was not too impressed with the result, sound wise. My personal choice for 66 is now 2 x base enhanced in the body for both Swd + Howes 66. Where about in the body did you position the bass enhanced? and was it the later or earlier class 66? Regards Roy

Most of mine are the older type 66135 or DRS/Freightliner/GBRF equivalents, you can tell as the cooler group doesn't have holes through it and there was no recess for a speaker, the newer ones have holes from when Bachmann decided to fit sound (2007 onwards i think). Robert Davies
My experience with 66s are mostly limited to v3.5 Loksound. Bachmann standard soundscheme - much faffing around and came to the decision that a single bass enhanced in the standard position is the best balance between hassle and sound quality - there is a slight improvement with a bass reflex in that position but that involves shaving the speaker box down, reprofiling the rear of the cab wall, removing the screw retainers for the upper marker light and cablight and gluing same in. Howes v3.5 soundscheme - the best solution by some margin was to retain the standard speaker as Big Jim suggested, and properly seal it - the difference between sealed and unsealed is genuinely astonishing. Now if you have a Loksound v4 AND a lokprogrammer, I strongly recommend that you download and experiment with the soundscheme from ESU's own class 66/77 - I like it a lot, but you may feel differently - have a look here: http://www.esu.eu/en...4/loksound-v40/ about half way down the page currently. -Rob ps the ESU Class 66 scheme is all new - NOT the one from the old Mehano 66.
