A bus between Neilston and Barrhead was usually what we (in Control) arranged for unplanned disruption, due to the difficulty of providing any worthwhile alternative service for the whole route. I do recall one occasion, some years ago now, when planned work was taking place at Neilston itself, and the alternative service was a bus Neilston/Patterton and Class 156 Patterton/Glasgow C, using the Up line in both directions between Patterton and Muirend.
