modelman14
Hello all. So,after a recent house move and the sale of my previous N scale and O scale layouts I now find myself with the time, space and inclination to build a loco fueling/stabling point in 7mm. With the constant release of modern locos and stock now is the time to get started. The layout is only approx 3.5m long and only 55cm wide, but has enough space to site a good few diesels. The idea is that the depot/fueling point is at the end of a medium sized marshaling yard so will see many different locos coming and going and the odd shunter with a few freight wagons for attention in the workshop. It will be analogue for now,but I may go DCC in the future. Here's a few piccys of the progress so far.. As I progress,I'll keep updating,it will be a slow journey mind as I fit it in between work and my other interests.

modelman14
Track laying has commenced and we have a few wires in place. Had a couple of locos stabled to see if everything fits. So far so good, apart from a failed soldering iron.

modelman14
So,dosn't look like much has been done above, because it hasn't! All focus lately has been underneath with the electrics. Peco smartswitches have been installed on 3 of the 4 points, along with smartfrogs. Took me a while to figure out why the double slip was shorting on the frogs, then realised I needed the opposite frogs switched with the opposite points..doh.. Must add that the quality of the Peco smartswitch system is appaling,it nearly went back but as it's all out of sight I can live with it. It functions as expected,I have used them before, but the components must be quickly chucked together in a shed somewhere,if I was overseeing Pecos quality control the system would have been rejected. Anyhow..progress so far.. More soon.. Edited January 8, 2019 by modelman14
pwr
This looks good. I see you are using Peco Servos. Are they OK to install and use. I am thinking of using these to poer the signals on Black Notley as I think they can be tuned to bounce Paul

Can take a little effort to install with smooth operation, but I eventually got them operating like I wanted. Not sure about the semaphore bounce with these, but I have seen it somewhere,DCC supplies maybe?. Thanks.
modelman14
More progress over the past few weeks,90% of the track and electrics are installed and all 4 points are operating very well with the Peco Powerswitches and Powerfrogs. Control panel is 90 % finished as well. The fiddle yard is 99% finished, just need some handles on the cassettes. The cassettes are individually switched on each of the 2 to keep the wiring across the boards simple. And a view down the layout, which for some reason is displaying in landscape..? modelman14
That's all the track down, electrics in,panel finished and point motors and smartfrogs working. Next will be painting the track, chairs and sleepers before airbrushing it.... Couple of arty shots Hoping to have it complete by the back end of the year....
modelman14
These OAA's from Heljan are a popular weathering subject of late.Heres my take on a used OAA. I'll probably chuck some used ballast and a couple of sleepers in it and maybe an oil drum or two to represent a general junk storage vehicle. Looks good with the 08.
47606odin
Can I suggest on the OAA to drop in a little black wash on the brake disk, and when it is nearly dry hold a cotton bud on it and rotate the wheels to wipe the disk. It’ll really show up the bolt and disk split nicely 1
modelman14
Good morning. So,it's been a while since I posted here, but as there has been progress of late I will give a little update. Currently I'm painting the rails and chairs, laying ballast and airbrushing the permanent way to represent a very grimy 90's ish stabling/fueling point. These pics are prior to the airbrush coming out. I'll update again later when I take a couple of pics of the airbrushed trackbed.
modelman14
Now that the ballast has been laid I've weathered it and started adding a scenic break to the fiddle yard. I've just realised that as I was using different brick sheets the courses of brick don't line up all the way along the joins on the corners of the bridge, think I'll bin them and start again,or disguise the join with something...
RMweb Gold jcarta Posted August 30, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 30, 2019 Weathering and some foliage should cover it up nicely.... Looking good though Jim
