LT Dreadnought Coaches

Having built rather a few Ian Kirk coach kits lately I thought it was time to start these, which have been in the stash for a few years.

They are the original Radley (ex Harrow Models) kits with white metal sides and bogies.

The underframe boxes are built from plasticard with spare Ian Kirk brake gear bits added.

Hi Darius,

You don't happen to know if anyone makes a 4mm kit of LSWR Ironclad coaches do you?

Kind regards,

Richard B

Hi Richard,

Phoenix Kits apparently make kits for these coaches but the website is a few years old and I am not sure if they are available.

Worsely Works makes etched sides, ends and battery boxes.

Those Dreadnaughts must weigh a tonne. Armour-plated you might day

What do you have to pull them?

Once they are finished I will see if the Heljan Metropolitan Bo-Bo can pull them.

Coach sides and roof partly assembled.  Final side will be attached after the seats and partitions are installed as the tumblehome prevents the seat castings from being inserted afterwards.

Chassis completed and painted.

Coach body now fully assembled - the seating units are sufficiently narrow for the completed body to drop over them.

This makes fixing the body to the chassis much easier as the main seating units can be glued to the chassis and the end seats to the coach body.  The body can then be screw-attached to the chassis with the screws engaging in the end seat bases.
