RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 3, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 3, 2019 My final full day, the intended plan was the Albula railway museum and to walk the Albula spirals. Forecast was good and delivered! Approaching Bergün

RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 3, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 3, 2019 (edited) The Albula Museum Honestly I wouldn’t want to pay the 15chf fee after seeing it because it’s a bit text heavy although presented very well and it lacks much in the way of kids interactive displays too. But as it was free with a Swiss Pass I thoroughly enjoyed it although I spent most of the time drooling over the Om layout which wasn’t operating that day. There was a nice nice collection of O scale RhB based models in tinplate and a truly wallet defying display of Om models that make Bemo’s new range look cheap Edited October 3, 2019 by PaulRhB
Mike at C&M
What a wonderful collection of pictures to remind me of my Swiss jaunts in the 1980s. Is your hotel in Chur the Franziskaner? I stayed there many times for precisely the same reason as you - handy for the station through the city arch.
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 3, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 3, 2019 The modelling is superb and the rolling video gives a nice view of it in operation.

RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted October 3, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 3, 2019 Oh so wonderful. Memories of our (well my bit of...) our silver wedding anniversary trip (Chur/Brig) 10 years ago. We had deep fresh new snow in April on the higher lines, it was magical.

RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 3, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 3, 2019 After reaching the outskirts of Bergün I turned right and back up the hill to the double spiral above the town.
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 3, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 3, 2019 The village in the upper left is Latch where they filmed the Heidi tv show, this is the train descending on the middle level. And again heading into Bergün station on the lower level. This is from the small bridge in the first photo. Rush hour in Bergün
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 3, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 3, 2019 Walking into the town I came across this bridge being repaired with trains still running over it. Basicallly the four temporary girders span beyond the abutments that are being rebuilt. Trains are announced by a klaxon. And this is the GEx passing over it. A retiring driver on his last run, taking his friends to the retirement party If they expect to fill the four skips it must be planned to be a good bar!! On my return to Filisur I was surprised to see the second Krok, 414, on the shuttle so hopped on. I subsequently learnt 415 failed the evening before rather smokily so fingers crossed its economic to repair her.
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 3, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 3, 2019 I just opened the window and leant on the bar enjoying the view. Arriving at Davos she was oiled round and then headed back to Landquart for the night. and I I took the railcar back to Filisur

eastwestdivide
I can recommend that walk along the Bahnlehrpfad past the spirals, downhill of course - did it a few years ago before the tunnel works began, and now I want to go back.
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 4, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 4, 2019 (edited) Final day was just making my way home, or so I thought! A leisurely checkout, departing Filisur Last glimpse of the RhB at Landquart with a line up of the future RhB I couldn’t resist a photo of the trams out front of Zurich station and onto the airport where it went a bit sideways! The first plane broke! Nice night in very posh hotel Sat on plane next morning and they apologise for delay as Brussels air traffic control is broken! Guess where they’ve booked my connection? Missed connection! Very nice lady gets me on a flight just over an hour later Tempted to borrow this to get home! The efficiency of the re-booking was pretty good although an extra 18hrs onto the trip wasn’t great it wasn’t a pain either. If you enjoyed that snapshot the full album with loads of detail shots for modelling is on Flickr here. Edited October 4, 2019 by PaulRhB 7

I may have bought a companion to my existing Krok . . . just need to order the new plates! 4
