I’m really tempted by this forthcoming release but am still in the wonderful world of DC operation. So, 

1.) does anyone know if any retailer strips out the speaker and chip and sells defrocked sound fitted models in this way?

2.) I can quite easily do the work but don’t want to pay a premium. How much could I expect to sell the chip and speaker for? 
 

I am aware that they did a DC ready version about 18months ago as I have it.

You could ask Derails, who removed a speaker and TTS decoder from a Hornby loco for me.

As the Sound Version of the Earl just hit the shops - does anybody know which sound decoders are used - and which speakers? Any capacitors installed?
