Maximum incline for Bachmann Baldwin

I plan to include a 009 section on my layout.  What would be the maximum incline for a Bachmann Baldwin pulling 6 coal cars?

No doubt would depend on how free running the actual wagons you have are.

I would suggest setting up a yard of track on a piece of timber, raising one end by an inch. That will give you a simple test to see what your  Baldwin will haul up a 1:36 gradient. You can vary that theme to see what the limits are at different gradients. 

Good luck and please post up the results, as I'm sure we would all like to know. If you haven't bought the loco etc yet, I'm  sure someone here can do the test?

Curves will also reduce the haulage, especially tighter curves. What it might haul on the straight up an incline won't mean you could go then round a 9" radius curve on the same incline.

A lot is going to depend on what the coal cars are, how heavy they are, how free running etc.

There was a discussion on NGRM about it's haulage capacity and people reckon it wasn't very good on inclines. As others have said best to test it with the stock you want it to haul. Also add weight if possible.
