RMweb Gold Ralf Posted May 25, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 25, 2020 Hi Folks, Clearing out cupboard and the like (as you do) I've stumbled on this ashtray, we've never smoked and have no desire for it, so before I try and flog it on eBay does anyone know whose logo it shows? Many manufacturers changed their logos depending on whatever was fashionable at the time. Two diamonds separated by a plain one in the middle suggests DD to me. It's definitely a pub one, I remember them in the 1970s. Colour also fits with DD. Don't forget there wasn't really that many brands about that would be advertising their wares on pub ashtrays. it would be beer, spirits or tobacco. Maybe a few soft drinks. Steamport Southport
There's an interlocking double diamond on this logo. Not the same though. http://barclayperkins.blogspot.com/2015/10/why-tied-houses-existed.html Jason
RMweb Premium petethemole Posted May 25, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 25, 2020 I doubt it's Double Diamond; their later ashtrays just had DD in red. Is there a maker's name on the base? If it's Wade you might be able to track it down.

RMweb Gold The Johnster Posted May 25, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 25, 2020 (edited) Took me less than a minute to track Wade Ceramics down on google; their website has contact details. I'd suggest contacting them and seeing if they can help. Edited May 25, 2020 by The Johnster

I was thinking along the lines of fan site / catalogues rather than actually thinking the manufacturers would be interested in some ancient likely promo product of theirs! But having said that if I don't ask I'll never know! Ralf

RMweb Premium Mike Bellamy Posted May 26, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 26, 2020 Interesting that the collection shown above does not include an example of a round ashtray - perhaps they will make you an offer ?

RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted May 26, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 26, 2020 PDM is a design company so the ashtray was probably a Wade production in association with, or for, PDM for a PDM client. Wade used to do all sorts of contract jobs for customers as wel as their own ranges.
