LNERJP
Hi I'm interested in modelling the Thornaby 37/5's in the 80's and realize they are absolute minefield of detail differences. I know the riveted roof's went from 37001 to 37095 + 37119 but I am struggling with the different Cantrail grill styles anyone have a definitive list? What's the main differences between a VF and a RSH built loco? Cheers JP

LNERJP
That would have been perfect except all the Thornaby ones where converted from split headcode 37's. JP

D6775
The main difference between the VF & RSH ones is the additional dividing bars on the cant rail grills for the RSH ones. The first six VF ones (D6700-D6705) also had these additional dividing bars so 501 presents its self as an RSH loco!! The other thing to watch out for is the the nose side grills, some having the central dividing bar and some not, just to add complication there will be some with a mixture of these grills. 501 for example has dividing bars on all four cab sides, where as 519 has dividing bars on the drivers cab sides, but plain grills on the 2nd mans cabsides! I would suggest picking the loco's that you intend to model then scouring flickr.com and checking all the details! Good luck!

It was an RSH machine too (and was the famous Police 37 in the 1980s InterCity advert...) - certainly seemed to stand out.
