  2. That's because it's D5218, which being numbered above D5176 never did have a valance. D5072 was a class 24/1 and was built at least with a full valance.

  5. Yes, I spent many an hour linesiding in Dysart in summer '82, moving a relative into a house that backed onto the ECML. Then in the years '84 - '87 I covered some of the action during holidays and on one occasion a university field-trip to Edinburgh! I had plenty of 27s as they were in the clear majority, a few 47s including my antepenultimate one for sight, xb HA 47018, rescuing an errant 27055 (that I cleared the class with for sight) on a Cardenden - Waverley service. 37169 I think, in summer '84 deputising for a missing Type 2, a Peak of some description and a pair of Class 20s. Wonderful days, the sun always shone, and the odd illicit pint in Glasgow was very welcome too before an overnight leap to Stirling and beyond!

  8. There are a few people on here who either a) don't really understand how media works or b) are deliberately being pedantic for some unknowable purpose. A video caption/ strap-line, title or whatever is designed to attract a potential viewer's attention. That's all. It is a sales tool. Not an offer to treat or a contractually binding gentleman's agreement. When the invasion of Afghanistan kicked off, the Scottish Sun led with the awesomely witty and punning 'Irn Fist.' I'm not going to explain the etymology for the hapless amongst us, except to point out that neither a soft drink made by Barrs, or a mis-spelt Motörhead album from 1982 were being described. Get. Over. It.

  13. Amazing to reflect on these (/0s at least) staying vb, vi or vo in the main right up to withdrawal. Scottish Region was amazing back in '84.

  15. There are two gaps in my loco fleet, namely D260-66 and D7602-08. These 14 diesels aren't going to make that much difference to their balance sheet when I get round to the purchase, but I will be able to add them to the roster with confidence (and consistency). I've already sated my desire for Class 37 and 47 with earlier tooling, and more than two dozen Peaks would just be greed.

  17. LOL! It pains me to say that I struggle massively with Rule One. I have to keep quiet about it for fear of causing offence. When I hear it being invoked, I feel like the actors in Black Adder, when the actual name of 'the Scottish Play' is mentioned!

  19. Wow! That's a pretty decent gap between posts - over 12 years! I've no idea TBH; they'll not have been chucked out but quite where they reside just now is not known. I'll keep my eyes open just in case!
  20. Frankly the appearance of this version is not at all to my taste, being a bit of a straight-edge Death Steam kind of guy. It's impossible to tell through all that gaudiness how the poor thing would look caked in grot and as though it's at one with the Cumbrian landscape.
  21. It's swapping from platform 1 to 2 for some operational purpose.
