Squirrel Rail
Much of the day spent stocking up supplies at Model Junction in Bury St Edmunds, great shop and good to see the guys. The 40 from last night got its first few passes of the airbrush but main job was preparing a pair of bubble cars and another 90 into primer. A bit grey on the bench like the weather had been all day! and with its mates ready for some colour
Squirrel Rail
Well the grey of yesterday is replaced by network rail yellow and RES red - Phoenix paints as usual- the BR blue was good while it lasted!
Squirrel Rail
Managed to finish off the 40s today and repair the damage to Squirrels End, not only from granddaughter but a direct hit by a bag of daffodil bulbs dropped by yours truly. I'm going to rebuild the catenary with brass when I get the chance... Anyway here they are and 106 and 022 I wasn't happy with the number on 106 so it had a change following the pics to straighten up the 1..
Squirrel Rail
The other job today was 90033 in Mainline. Couple of pics of it here ex works - may weather it, may not!
Squirrel Rail
Much of today has been spent on big beastie 90036 which has had all its decals and first coats of weathering. The temptation to attack 90033 behind it has so far been resisted.... to weather or not to weather, that is the question but for 036 it had to be! and here's the pair, 11

letterspider
Perhaps get the best of both worlds - weather the roof and underframe and leave the bodywork clean from the washer, Like the prototype

letterspider
Well if Bachmann announce new liveries this week, they will probably get that anyway. On the other hand I doubt a manufacturer can weather to that sort of standard.
Squirrel Rail
90036 is 99% finished - there's a touch up to do on the drivers window frame and a stripe bridging a gap in the body work behind the door which I hadn't noticed until studying the pics so will resolve them tomorrow - other wise here it is,
Squirrel Rail
Today has been spent putting the Dapol bubble cars back together following their repaint into Network Rail yellow. Few more bits to paint until the decals arrive.
Squirrel Rail
Bit of progress today. First up decals onto another Penny Black... next up a new project - 60042 becoming 60065 so first job is losing plates, numbers and EWS lettering prior to respray if the gold bands. The three beasties on the cab side will be going in a bit!

rob D2
Nice one, did you have to respray the gold becuase getting the numbers off jiggered it or was it the colour itself ? Seems a bit creamy to me , the colour Hornby used Edited November 5, 2020 by rob D2 Stupid iPad

Seems a bit creamy to me , the colour Hornby used Hi Rob, I could have used the Hornby colour as the numbers come off fairly cleanly but it is more like the warning panel yellow! I prefer the Phoenix colour with a small drop of yellow - as in the bottom pic after I sprayed it., also gives a nice surface for the new numbers. The light on my workbench always makes colours look weird in photos ie 90036 where the roof and warning panel are two different colours but in photos look the flipping same! Squirrel Rail
60065 has been taking up the bench today. Following the gold bands today has seen horns painted maroon ( were black) lamp irons into white, deflectors into yellow, exhaust back to steel and started weathering and last up bogie pipe work into white- phew!! 10
Squirrel Rail
More progress on 60065 today including the primer patches on the roof and the yellow above the cab windows on one end. Some fading to the gold band although not very visible in the pics followed by numbers and names. Once the weathering begins it should all come together nicely!

I think it's always good to share what we are up to as I always look at other work and gain ideas and inspiration, will be some more 90 work on here if I can ever get the concrete paint off 90042 Cheers Jerry
rob D2
Yes , that 90 was super. Think I saw it on eBay - got a pretty good price , but still a bargain for the work involved and level of skill !
