Cass7117
Having lost my Dad earlier in the year I've started trying to digitize his numerous photographic slides. He worked for Manchester Liners from about 1974 to 79 and there are quite a few pictures of containers at various locations. The quality isn't great but hopefully some may be of interest. 7 2
Cass7117
These two are banana boxes from slightly earlier (early 70s) at Galveston and Puerto Cortez, but I assume similar ones came to the UK.
jonny777
Wow! It is quite amazing how quickly older names are forgotten. In fact, I don't think I ever saw anything with ZIM on it.
Gibbo675
Hi 717, I built and painted up some 1970's container boxes earlier in the year with Manchester Liners being one of the liveries modelled. Manchester Liners and OCL. 30' Ford Boxes. 10', 20' and 30' Freightliner. 20' Freightliner with an Irish ferry service box. Not a made up livery ! Caboose for the guard. Gibbo. 4

Johann Marsbar
A bit later than the 1970's, but I took this photo from the top of one of the cranes at the then brand new Walton Container Terminal at Felixstowe Docks back in 1982.... I worked there for 6 months on placement from College that summer - the terminal having only opened earlier that year. Manchester Liners had an office there, and a number of their containers can be seen, along with the likes of Dart, CP Ships, OOCL, NOL etc. The new North rail terminal, still under construction, can be seen behind the main building. This view would look rather different today! Edited August 23, 2020 by Johann Marsbar
RMweb Gold russ p Posted August 23, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 23, 2020 I'd love some RTR Manchester liners containers my dad also worked for them but in the 60s I would think there is a market for 60s containers for the Bachmann flats

Hi Gibbo trouble is the Bachmann ones are ribbed whereas a lot of 60s ones aren't That tartan arrow picture is interesting as they aren't freightliner containers but look quite long and are being loaded onto what look like converted bogie bolster Ds

Freightliner also used similar smooth sided insulated boxes that were painted in the Rail grey with a red stripe livery, I used Railtec transfers for mine. jessy1692
Evening all, the 30ft Hornby boxes as @Gibbo675 says are cheap echugh and cut down very easily. I sized my transfers to suit them. I have found about half a sheet of OCL 20ft ones and probably have a couple of Man liners left. Currently out of decal paper but its easily enough to get more. Only thing now is we changed printer at work so the colours may be slightly different if i run more of. Probably wont matter too much. @Cass7117 great pics at the top of the thread, drop me a PM @russ pand ill have a look and see what iv got left over. If theres enough interest i can run off a few sheets. Cheers James Edited August 23, 2020 by jessy1692 6

Hi Monty, I think it may well be, I have some other photographs shewing half height sided open topped containers that look similar although they are taken from a distance and its hard to tell for sure. Satan's Goldfish
A mate has an old Hapag Lloyd for storage at his workshop, it's on my list of things to make in the distant future but I don't think I've ever seen a picture of the side of one these to see what the logo should look like... and his is a little difficult to access! I like the idea of chopping Hornby 30s to make these, don't know why that never sprung to mind.

Satan's Goldfish
Some info and pictures here that may be of use to someone: https://www.northwalshamheritage.org.uk/crane-fruehauf/ Was taken by surprise a few months ago by a picture of fully loaded FFA/FGA sets from North Walsham passing Norwich, never knew they were produced there, and at a rate that they could load 2x trains a day! 3 3
w124bob
Just picked up some beer kegs from Accurascale for a coupe of flat container loads, I'm aware of the Hornsey Broadway images from a while ago on their site for ideas as to how they were secured with netting. What I really would like are some closeup pictures of exactly how the flat container base looked and an idea of bulkhead height, can someone also confirm the length.

Hi Bob, I can measure up mine I'm just about to chop up for you but here's an excellent pic from another Darius's thread where Bernard has posted a BR leaflet on these. Hope this helps James Edited March 4, 2021 by jessy1692
