NS Peak
Hello, I am trying to find out information about all the railways past and present in the Netherlands, and was wondering if there was an equivalent of a railway atlas? The Netherlands like many other countries has a rich railway past and I was trying to find out more about some of the historic lines that existed. can anyone recommend any reading material that could help? Thanks Stephen
sncf231e
I do not know this book myself: https://www.treinwebshop.nl/product/atlas-van-de-verdwenen-spoorlijnen-in-nederland/ but it has a very good review here (I hope google will translate for you): https://historiek.net/atlas-van-verdwenen-spoorlijnen-in-nederland/135956/ Regards Fred

KeWie
I can also recommend the book Overzicht van de Nederlandse spoor- en tramwegbedrijven (Overview of Dutch Rail and Tramway Companies, fourth edition) which provides an overview of all rail and tramway companies in the Netherlands, including opening and closing dates and a number of maps. Please see the site of the publisher for further details. Just new is the website https://spoortijdlijn.nl/. At the moment only main lines and a couple of local railways are shown, but apparently the builder of the website is planning to add more local railways. doctor quinn
If you’d like a good general history in English, I can recommend Augustus J. Veenendaal Railways in the Netherlands: A Brief History, 1834-1994.
RMweb Premium Neil Posted June 24, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 24, 2021 You might find this website Sporenplan Online useful. It has track-plans of many Dutch stations and other countries too; beware you can lose yourself for hours in there. 1
