philsandy
Can anyone recommend a suitable car spray paint for rusty rail sides. Just done a test piece, spraying the sleepers with Railmatch Frame dirt, which looks good. Then sprayed rail sides and chairs with Railmatch Dark Rust, but it looks too red. I know Railmatch also do a Light Rust, but it doesn't look much different from the Dark Rust.
Wheatley
I doubt you'll find one, simply because 'rust' or anything that looks like rust, isn't a great finish for a car. Car brown tends more towards gloss chocolate or toffee. Try one of the military modelling spray can ranges, Army Painter or even Humrol or Tamiya. There's bound to be an RLM colour for German Tank Rust or something similar. 2
cravensdmufan
Halfords Camouflage Spray Paint is a matt finish. https://www.halfords.com/motoring/paints-and-body-repair/specialist-and-decorative-paints/halfords-camouflage-spray-paint-brown-300ml-252036.html Someone on here a few months back posted photos of track they had weathered with it and it looked really good. (Goodness knows what thread though!) Edit: Here it is!: Edited August 25, 2020 by cravensdmufan To include link 2

It is good for yards, sidings etc. but a bit to dark for main running lines (particularly modern ones) IMO. Probably best to use before ballasting. letterspider
I have recently used Halfords Camouflague brown. I used grey primer first for better adhesion to the metal and colour depth. Happy with the results. Pictures posted on my thread Tottenham East. Yet to weather the ballast. Edited August 26, 2020 by letterspider
philsandy
Thanks for all your replies. Humbrol Sand (063) looks close to the sort of shade I'm looking for.
