jetmorgan
I'm currently in a build and restoration of some Ian Kirk Maunsell coach kits, the corridor thirds and 6 compartment brakes. The restorations were a Ebay purchase that were already built but in need of pulling apart, cleaning up and putting back together. I'm now getting towards rebuilding and I want to start painting the interiors but I don;t know what colours to use for the seats. I will be repainting all coaches, 8 of them including a Bulleid in the carmine & cream early BR livery. So what colours should I be using for the seat upholstery? RMweb Gold Nick C Posted September 18, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 18, 2020 Generally a red/maroon for third class, and dark blue for first. The Bluebell have some example on their web page: http://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/cw/moquette/1950s.html

Il Grifone
BR colours were maroon for third (later second) class and dark blue for first. The latter were provided with antimacassars . This abomination was still in use in the fifties. I assume that by the time they were repainted crimson and cream (it they actually made it - the Southern Region was keen on it's green - I can recall seeing some in what must have been 1954/5) the upholstery would have been in a dire state and replaced For the Southern Railway colours, I can't help I'm afraid.
