ManofKent
I'm planning my first layout in 35 years, and have pretty much settled on a loosely based Loch Tay plan. It will need to be a little compressed with the pier siding loop even shorter than the original, and more to 45 degrees of the station rather than 90 degrees, but hope to capture the spirit at least. I've tracked down most books covering the Killin line and done a lot of web searching, but Caley period photos are obviously few and far between. Does anyone know of any photos that show the front of the two sheds in the well known early (possibly opening day) photo: https://media.gettyimages.com/photos/loch-taykillin-pier-station-caledonian-railway-scotland-c-1886-picture-id90746779?s=2048x2048 ? (I won't embed for copyright). The closest I've found is in a discussion on the CRA, but one shed doesn't show at all, and the other is largely obscured by a wagon: https://www.crassoc.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=291 Any links to other Caley period photos greatly appreciated - I've found one of the Killin pug between the station and shed, and a couple of distant shots of the pier, but not much. Karl
Nice prototype location to use this, will be nice to watch this develop. I have lots of Scottish railway books but only recently came across this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Killin-Branch-Personal-Recollection/dp/1899246231, there's none from the period you're interested in but there are a small number from the 1930s which may offer some help. You've probably already come across this but incase not this link might have one or two images of use https://www.crassoc.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=291 Edited December 2, 2020 by Karl

The CRA link I've seen and shows how short the loop on the pier sidings was (and nice to know I can block the points and justify it as prototypical). I wanted a location with some scenic height (Killin Station was another possibility, but is pretty flat) , somewhere I could squeeze into a micro-layout (pug operated helps) and as a railway the history seems to make Titfield seem like a professional operation which appeals.
