meatloaf
Hi Ive installed a DCC18 chip into an EFE j94. Running is quite erratic atm, hopefully it gets better after a good run in. The decoder seems to be preprogrammed with interia settings and possibly setting that limit the speed of the loco as its got quite a low top speed on DCC compared to DC. Are there any settings i should be changing to better suit a coreless motor? Back EMF for instance?
meatloaf
So to update, the loco runs fine on DC but with the above decoder installed its very jittery and stalls on every point. On DC it runs nicely over the same pointwork.
RMweb Premium 7013 Posted March 3, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 3, 2021 I have two locos with Corless motors, One worked fine wthout any adjustments, I believe i switched the back EMF off on the other, but I cannot swear to it as it was a long time ago. Nigelcliffe
I'd put a Zimo in anything. They have well documented settings for coreless motors. Turning off the EMF control is a way to get around a decoder which lacks the ability to sense the motor's changes. - Nigel

Either read the Zimo manual, or my way of doing it is written up here: http://www.2mm.org.uk/articles/Zimo-decoders.htm
RMweb Premium Izzy Posted March 4, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 4, 2021 Try setting cv9 to 51, and cv56 to 133. These are the base settings Zimo recommend for coreless motors. Normally both are set at either 55 (default values) or 0 (for auto adjustment with the very latest firmware versions).
