Butler
Hi I am trying to put a Night Ferry Train together, I don’t know ifa suitable fourgon is available, but if not I would like to repaint a Southern Utilty Van in Blue, as they were used, although a little different. Can anyone suggest the correct colour to match the Wagon Lits blue. Thanks B
sncf231e
There is no "general" correct colour to match the Wagon Lits blue. Many different blue colors are used for CIWL models so it is a matter of taste. For a kit I made (http://sncf231e.nl/amati-kit-for-a-ciwl-lx-sleeping-car/) RAL 5013 was advised which is Humbrol 104, Oxford blue or Revell 350. Here is a German post about all the CIWL colors for H0 models: https://www.wagonslits.de/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=403 And to see al different colors (on photos) used in models, see my e-book on CIWL models: http://sncf231e.nl/ciwl-carriages-by-fredsmall/ Regards Fred Edited April 1, 2021 by sncf231e

The fourgons that were used - at least in the later era - were SNCF green

Nearholmer
But, I believe the SR vans were blue. Be worth checking dates though, because they were taken off the train long before it ceased running, I think in the late 1960s, but check, don't trust my memory. And, the SNCF ones were blue too, for some of the time, or possibly some of the fourgons, as here for example http://www.eastbank.org.uk/images/Ferry/NF0109.jpg And, and, didn't the CIWL blue itself change near the end, to a less saturated shade? or was the less saturated blue actually an SNCF colour, after they took over the coaches? Again, check, don't trust my memory. In summary: if you want to be spot-on, dates get important. Edited April 3, 2021 by Nearholmer 1
sncf231e
According to Behrend the Southern Railway vans were blue and were used until 1959. Regards Fred
Butler
Hi Beherend says, according to his book on The Night Ferry, the lettering on the fourgons was in Gold, to match the coaches? Is that correct? B
sncf231e
Behrend was a contemporary observer, so I would assume he is correct until someone else proves differently with colour pictures. The picture of the Southern van above is not from a scale model, so proves nothing; but I liked the picture. Regards Fred
Butler
Is the picture of a model kit, or RTR or scratch built? B
sncf231e
It is a design picture (three dimensional rendering) of a coarse scale 0 gauge planned model by Darstaed. Regards Fred
Vinedusk
REE currently have short and long fourgons in most pre-SNCF liveries. MSL and PierreDominique had them on websites.
