RMweb Gold Red Fox Posted May 26, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 26, 2021 Have checked my packs and found two wagons suffering. They are from original batch Freightliner packs B724B and B 724D the D pack being the worst with a long crack across the deck.
Lowlander
Thanks for the heads up. I've checked and I have three of the Freightliner version in varing degrees of cracking. I wonder how many more times this is going to happen in the future with other models:-( Edited June 11, 2021 by ayrmrg

The Black Hat
I have checked and found my GBRF ones to be ok. A Fastline pair have damage and another Fastline one has the start of a crack in the bodywork. Mine look to be all the top of the model, with the cracks in the frame. Presume it is the metal expanding (heat?) causing the damage as these were all bought last year or year before and had no damage then.
Michael Hodgson
Not expansion in the heat but Mazak rot - the metal deforms and fractures the plastic in which it is encased. My understanding it is that a crystalline change occurs over time in the alloy, only happens with batches of bad alloy and it can taken years to develop, & nothing much can be done to fix it. You can expect your FL one to deteriorate further and warp but with luck the GBRF may have been made from a better batch of alloy.

Yes, I sent them back at the end of April, took just under three weeks for inspection and return. 2
