Sutton Junction
Bachmann announced earlier this year that they would be producing a Class 158 in EMT livery which if I remember reading right will be a better version than the previous model. Which leads me to a few questions... - What aspects of the model have improved? - Im presuming new tooling, a DCC ready plug, added weight and working front & rear lights? - When is it set to be released? This is one of the models im most looking forward to this year Cheers, Sutty
RMweb Premium richierich Posted December 3, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 3, 2012 Believe the model is in CAD design stage, so guess will be mid to late 2013?
RMweb Gold BR Blue Posted December 6, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 6, 2012 There were a few issues with the original model as I recall. Although I have to say I always liked it. The bogies are slightly misplaced on the original model so I guess this will be corrected. The new model will obviously be DCC ready as you suggest. I am sure the level of detail will increase as Bachmann models have improved greatly since the original 158. We will just have to wait and see. reevesthecat
I am sure the new models are advertised as DCC fitted. Mark
Matabiau
I had the impression that the 158s are to be DCC fitted, as per the Blue Pullman. The biggest drawback of the old 158 model, as far as I am concerned, is the light clusters. They are exposed, round topped red and yellow LEDs. martin_l_jones
In the latest Bachmann club catalogue it states that it is all new tooling with DCC provision but it sais they haven't got to the drawing board yet !
Matabiau
I look forward to receiving my copy in the next couple of days. It always takes longer to cross the channel as one would expect. Does anyone know if it is possible to buy replacement lighting sets for the old Bachmann 158?
RMweb Premium richierich Posted December 8, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 8, 2012 Yes, Express Models offer lighting solutions for Class 158/159. Or this site has some good DCC lighting projects for most of the RTR DMUs:- http://s374444733.websitehome.co.uk/railindex/trainsindex.htm
great central
Bah! 780 the first unit I had a total failure on
gridwatcher
I suspect this will be an entirely new model, or at least 90% new. The chassis will have to be totally reworked, as with the lights etc etc, would guess that they might try and go without the privacy glass windows, the body, while not bad, is wrong etc etc...start again Hence the delay. Time to the 170 at the same time!! Then a 156....please!!!
Ron Ron Ron
No need to "suspect". As already mentioned above (by martin_i_jones), the latest Collectors Club Magazine states...... "all new tooling and to include DCC provision".
RMweb Premium richierich Posted December 9, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 9, 2012 Seeing that Bachmann haven't started the design process, my wallet is safe for the time being . . . .

martin_l_jones
Does anyone know if it is possible to buy replacement lighting sets for the old Bachmann 158? Yes, you can buy them direct from Bachmann sparest, however there is a minimum charge of £10 for spares now so I bought two, I think they were £4.50 each
Matabiau
I was looking more for an alternative than for a replacement of the original, something closer to the prototype than the red and yellow LED pairs.
craigwelsh
I was looking more for an alternative than for a replacement of the original, something closer to the prototype than the red and yellow LED pairs. Express Models as mentioned earlier - http://www.expressmodels.co.uk/acatalog/DCC_Special_Lighting_Units_for_156_or_158_Units_.html Gives you the full 3 lights. There might be a DC version as well under lightstore.
