I've just remembered I didn't post the pics of the layout at Quorn.

Here they are-

The layout looked a lot better without the lighting rig, and there was enough light to do without.  Plans are now afoot to build a stronger method of attaching the lighting strips.  The nameboard will stay attached to the front.

We've actually lost the covers for the end holes, so new ones will be made, possibly from cloth offcuts.

The other thing that will happen is that the tall warehouse on the front will be lifted 2mm at the front only so it leans backwards slightly on its foundations.  That way when the scenic extension sags as in pic three it will be vertical.  Smoke and mirrors again......

October Update

Andy Y is coming to the clubroom early next month to photograph the layout for BRM.

In the mean time a couple of new phone pics to whet the appetite.  The purpose of these is to help us spot things that Andy's camera will pick up so we can correct them before he arrives.  The white on the left where a bit of top colour has been knocked offf has now been corrected.  Must add some produce to the market.

Andy Y duly came to the clubroom today and took a goodly number of pics for BRM.

The bad news is that he also did a video of Geoff and I talking about the layout.

I think I still have a number of pics stored on my phone.  I must remember to look them out.  Here is one I don't think I've published yet to be going on with.

I've just remembered the pics on my phone...

A select few here.   I'm still waiting for Andy to show me the results of the photoshoot.  I've been told that Rise Park was pencilled in for the May BRM, but it looks as if that is now June at the earliest.  I may yet be surprised (says he hopefully).

However, we now have a new lighting rig which I've yet to photograph and the layout is ready to pack up to go to Nottingham next Friday.  Anyone visiting Nottingham show come over and have a chat.

The market in close up.  It still needs populating.  Just by it we've added a second trolleybus, this one broken down with a seat propped up against its back, nd the bamboo pole hanging from its trolley pole.  We're still no further on with getting the trolleybus overhead done, but it will happen ,eventually- every layout needs something to complete :)

The funeral cars now have some mourners.

The drains by the new estate are being inspected.

A closer look into the derelict farmyard at the Rise Park end.

In the mean time locos have been tested, and I've so far spent two boring days in the workshop cleaning wagon wheels and upgrading the colour of Trevor's iron ore train using real powdered iron ore.  All I need for that train is for the N-gauge Society to get its transfers back in house so I can number the two rakes of 24 5-plank opens that make up the two ironstone trains (full and empty). About 120 wagons (480 wheels) cleaned and at least the same to go- I'm doing Hawthorn Dene's wagons at the same time and using HD as a test track to run them in.

Like the photo of Buw-wew (Bulwell) market.

Paul.

Technically it is Top Valley Market (which didn't actually exist, which is our excuse for taking liberties with the prototype....)  The terrace showing in the background is the now-demolished side of Stanley Street in Newark.

All the very beat

One for the punters at Doncaster to look for next weekend.  To view properly use a shrink ray on yourself and stand on the station platform...

The kettle in the background is normally hidden by the reclamation yard board on the front.

Layout is now safely installed upstairs at Doncaster Racecourse (stand 114)

Drop by on Saturday to say hello to Jim and company.  I'll be there on Sunday as I can't have time off on Saturday since it is my wife's birthday...…

  • 1 year later...

Well, the worst has come to happen, and the club has been made homeless as the clubroom building is being demolished in the new year to make room for housing.

As we are now really too old to take the layout out (van hire) for exhibition we'd already decided to sell it on.  The imminent loss of the clubroom has made that more imminent.  It has been listed on eBay with a finish time of November 1st at 6.37pm.

Please feel free to have a look.  It got a bidder very quickly at the low start price, but more would always be welcome.

Congrats on the sale, is the owner intending to keep it on the exhibition circuit?

Not a clue.  the priority is getting it collected, which will be as soon as possible after lockdown.  sadly the lockdown isn't moving the timetable for the bulldozers backwards...

The layout has now been collected by its new owner.  We also got Burch Green away into temporary storage at the same time.  Just Ashtown, Newton Folly, Wilford, the Junior layout and Soarston still to be moved.  My dining room has three boxes of stuff, the conservatory is full of chairs and the workshop has all the show stuff plus the club magazine and book sales stock for me to fall over.  The car is also full of tables and chairs....

Some final pics from me.

Broken down trolleybus with seat squab propped up against the back as used to happen when a bus broke down.

And finally the back of Trevor's award winning Stanley Terrace.

The new owner Dave has read this blog, but I don't know if he will post on here or if he intends to show the layout.

Signing off for the Rise Park Group of myself (Les Richardson), Alf Hodkin, Geoff Warren, Jim Ross, occasionally Mr Simon, and the late Trevor Webster.

See you around when shows recommence with our remaining group of layouts.
