Still no progress on the layout.......tiling and decorating taking precedence......

The London Midland book appears to have hit the shelves a bit early....I’m very pleased with it. ......some sample pages uploaded....hairy arm not included!

Slight detour from tiling the bathroom, got one of two SR cast iron signs mounted in the garden. M20 coach bolts to hold that one up.

A length of bullhead rail would have done the trick.

Easier to find and drill an old fence post...... whole bag of post concrete to anchor it.

I found that fitting a desk into the layout room would have been a bit of a squeeze, so as the layout design wasn’t set in stone I have removed a baseboard. The layout is now 10 x 6ft....still big enough. The approaches to Olympia will need remodelling at both ends however. Redundant track has already been lifted.

A few pictures of the room.

Very nice Andy. The operating well will be cosy - no room for NIB or me...

Been a busy week.....finished the Scottish Region book and this was sent off to the publishers. To celebrate I found a Scottish beer in our local off license. Lia Fail from the Inveralmond Brewery. Very nice it was too.

As we are having visitors next weekend, a belated housewarming / significant birthday for me, I thought it was about time I actually did some work on Olympia.

This morning I cleaned the baseboards of detritus.

This afternoon the baseboards were levelled and clamped up, some still need bolt holes drilling. For the guests entertainment I thought I’d try and get something running.

The DCC bus was extended right around the layout, temporary baseboard jumpers installed. A temporary track was laid to attach at each end of Olympia. Droppers dropped and attached, each board tested one at a time until I had a complete working loop. The class 40 was set off with a coach and has now run for an hour propelling the coach without falling off. Nice!

Well done sir, on all counts!

Some spare time this afternoon and I got a second loop installed and attached to the DCC bus, two train running!!

One interesting fault has come to light. One cross over on the outer loop works fine. The crossover from the inner loop to the outer loop causes a short. Not sure why yet. Both have insulating fishplates between them, but the curved ones don’t have any insulated joiners on the other rail that connects to the frog.

On the lower picture the crossover doesn’t have an insulated joiners on the inner ‘straight’ rails, which I suspect is the problem.

I suspect you've created another crossover accidentally somewhere, with two points back-to-back even tough they're a long way apart. I always use insulating joiners on all four rails at the heel of every point.

Either that, or someone's put a three-rail wagon in a siding...

Does the Solari actually flap?

Oh, and that minion looks as though he's trying to work out how to climb on to his toilet seat...

I was trying to load a picture that is in PDF format, didn’t work and I couldn’t delete the post completely.

The picture is the cover for the next book ScR.

A successful and busy weekend in Brighton meeting up with everyone at the exhibition. Attendance was good and the standard of layouts was excellent.

The journey down from York was via Birmingham New St, Mrs G wanted the Birmingham mug from Starbucks. Never drink there coffee but got mugs from around the world!

This also gave me the chance to travel on a Pendalino, never been on one. Some say lucky you. The 1230 New st to Watford Junction turned out to be a 5 car 221......very very packed. Still ran to time and connections into the Milton Keynes - East Croydon service were made. Two more c377s got me to Southwick.

Had an excellent visit to the Corkscrew lines on Friday and trains ran too.

I head back north Thursday after giving a slide show and talk to the S.T.I.G ( earlier version than Top Gear ).

I don’t have a piercing saw so had to make do with the Dremel. If I do another conversion I’ll probably get one.

The four body parts have had an overnight bath in Nitromors. Final clean up and glue together today.
