Such a shame that it isn't 31165 completing the picture...

aussiesteve
G'day, Having recently squizzed some video clips featuring the class 37 at You Tube, I find their chortle very familiar. Most Aussie state rail systems possessed English Electric locos. In fact the very first main line diesels introduced in Australia were the TGR X class EEs down in Tasmania. However, the NSWR did not possess any EEs on the loco roster. The BHP (nee AIS) steelworks at Port Kembla NSW did and continues to possess a few EEs. When I transferred to Tassie in 2004, I finally got to play with EEs. A number of EEs still existed on the loco roster which I had to become accustomed to. The EE 12CSVT donk featuring in many of them. One of the facets that at first baffled me was the apparent surging in traction amps while powering. Maintenance staff confirming that this surging was normal. I have noticed this in the audio heard in the couple of video clips from You Tube of the class 37. Sadly, most of the Tassie EEs have today gone to history, a few are preserved. And some were sent interstate to continue to do battle. I am hoping that the class 37 will still continue to exist and entertain. Steve.
6990WitherslackHall
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me. I'm looking into preserved 37s that are registered for mainline running that currently carry either BR blue or the large logo livery. They must be carrying the domino headcode box but yellow (see photo). The only one I've got so far is 37264 (pictured). This 37 is preserved on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and currently operational but isn't mainline registered. Some help would be greatly appreciated. many thanks, James

There are of course DRS owned LLB 37/4s in use but they are obviously not preserved. 37264 may one day venture to Whitby so would be mainline registered but like the class 25 they use may be restricted to the Whitby - NYMR stretch. 6990WitherslackHall
I'm also looking into 37s that have the split domino headcode boxes. Again, these are preserved examples and have to be mainline certified and carrying either BR largo logo blue or Br Blue. One locomotive I've got so far is Class 37/0 37109. It is preserved on the East Lancashire Railway and operated on the mainline up until 2008. After that, I presume it was kept on the railway. I do not know if it was mainline registered after that year. Another locomotive I've got is 37025. Preserved by the Scottish 37 group, it is mainline certified and currently on hire to Colas Rail. Again, any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, James

Other than 37025 the only other split box 37's to operate in the mainline in the last 10 years: 37057 - Br Green 37099 - It briefly was in Blue when first put back on the mainline but is now Colas. Other 37/0's to operate on the mainline have lost the headcode boxes (37116 and 97301) before they returned.
