This female figure originally wore a skirt and was looking side on to her left - but I wanted her looking straight ahead into a shop window - so I changed that skirt to trousers and cut her head off and replaced it with one from a spare unpainted figure...….. And finally on the layout ……….. I don't think trousers suit her. Did she ask her husband, "Does my bum look big in these?".

TEAMYAKIMA
A solid 15 hour shift 5.15am to 8.15pm with no breaks ! Lots of progress - mostly due to the help I received from Al (Remagen) Turner - many thanks Al. I spent time making two new improved displays - one for each end of the layout. Here is the original version as seen at our first ever exhibition - Bristol last May...…………... The first version had too much text - too long to read - needed something shorter and sharper …………….. Here is version 3 - less text and snappier - easier to read!
TEAMYAKIMA
Well Fareham is over now and it was a very mixed bag as far as we were concerned. GOOD & BAD NEWS BAD NEWS We discovered many problems/issues that made operation very stressful GOOD NEWS We discovered many problems/issues that made operation very stressful at Fareham rather than at Warley in November. Seriously, one of the big problems I/we have is that the layout can only be operated at exhibitions and so we only discover these problems in front of an audience and we usually bodge to keep trains running - which is what we did at Fareham. I am working flat out to correct the issues before Warley.

TEAMYAKIMA
Someone found something interesting! There had been a lot of work to develop the bridge end of the layout which had previously been a bit neglected. The bridge is now permanently installed along with some trucks and a working cement mixer. Many thanks to Al Turner for his work in this area ..………... The crossing barrier area has also been improved with some trees and the building under construction has also been bedded in with a fence around it ...…. 11
TEAMYAKIMA
I had a bit of a disaster yesterday ……………. Remember that work I did to protect my one surface mounted PECO point motor ? Just in case it got a gentle knock when the boards were being stacked...…………..….. Well ............… I was moving some fiddle yard boards about. I took one random FY board out of the garage to make space when I was trying to do something inside. I left it sitting on its long edge. I thought it wasn't very windy - it turned out that I was wrong! I thought to myself..... Not sure which board that was. I hope it wasn't the one with the one with the surface mounted PECO motor - it was! The baseboard got blown over onto its face - the surface mounted PECO motor (the ONLY surface mounted PECO motor on any of the 8 fiddle yard boards!) got smashed through the baseboard top!!! Tim Hello Tim TBH the cover was to protect the point motor from a sideways swipe as people stacked the fiddle yard boards one on top of the other in a hurry to get home after an exhibition. Once the board toppled over nothing would have save the motor and cover being smashed through the baseboard top - only thicker plywood for the baseboard top would have prevented that.
TEAMYAKIMA
We learnt a lot about the layout at Fareham - and I operated the industrial railway at length for the first time. The points on the industrial railway scenic section are not DCC controlled from the handsets. They are conventionally controlled by individual switches. I had not built a control panel for the points - each point was controlled by a switch in line with that point's position on the layout. Therefore the operators have had to walk up and down the layout to operate the points and take their eyes off the layout to look for the (hidden) switches recessed into the frame of the baseboards. I concluded that this was fine for a few minutes if just demonstrating the layout to a friend or colleague, but it got tedious if you had to do it for hours on end. So …. I have built a control panel just for the industrial railway scenic section to make life easier for the operators. 7

TEAMYAKIMA
One bizarre problem we had at Fareham was a freight train randomly stopping momentarily due to a momentary short circuit. It turned out that some flat cars were shorting out the dcc. The N27 flat cars have metal underframes and in some circumstances the wheels can rub on the chassis and in extreme cases booth wheels touch and you get a short . Hard to believe, but here is the evidence..... Edited October 23, 2019 by TEAMYAKIMA 1
TEAMYAKIMA
So I needed some spacers - I knew that embossed brick plasticard would come in useful one day! Not pretty, but it's got the job done! 5
TEAMYAKIMA
One disappointment at exhibitions has been that the special features are somewhat subtle and viewers have only noticed them when they are pointed out and we really haven't had spare operators to do that. RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 26, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 26, 2019 Maybe rather than an arrow pointing it out a round ‘spot’ with Look on it so they know it’s somewhere near? The fun being in spotting it.

TEAMYAKIMA
One thing that has hindered layout progress in my new larger shed is the lack of a workbench which can take a baseboard. I have had to either work on the floor or set several boards up at a time - as not all boards have legs, some need to piggy-back onto others - and it all takes up space and is awkward. It wasn't too bad when working on the fiddle yard boards but now I need to work on the scenic boards and that would be much more difficult. So I've cobbled one together from bits and pieces ……………………….. the table is only 61 inches wide and the boards are 5ft and so I've added wood at the ends to stop the boards sliding over the ends which would put pressure on the backscenes and ultimately the buildings. when the board is positioned on its back . Moving into the centre of the shed means I can get at both sides …………….. and I've added a storage shelf sitting on top of the leg bracing It also means I can have boards on their sides to get at the wiring ……………. much more convenient than lieing on my back on the floor looking up at the wiring of a board set up on its legs! TEAMYAKIMA
I now have 13 more full days to work on the layout before Warley! I have been looking around for jobs that need doing ……………. There is a 10 car steam powered passenger train using traditional class 22 green coaches. This is how they looked when delivered ... At our first three exhibitions they looked like this - with closer couplings but very little else had changed...………... Now they look like this …………… weathered rooves and even closer couplings
