Can't go wrong with pics of 50's and 33's in my book, superb modelling and weathering.

Just a note about the Exhaust that was mentioned earlier, before I had an Air Brush I did mine with a Dry Brush. Add a small amount of paint to the flat round brush tip, then wipe off as much as you can on a Kitchen Tissue, the very lightly stipple around the Exhaust port working away from the hole so it gets weaker.

The pic below is from an article I did for Railway Modeller on dry brushing.

After months of not doing a lot and before that months of over analysing what I should put on the final tricky corner today I just got started. After all I can always change it if I don't like it.

So first off it was cleared, then some more basket liner and foliage added to continue the roadway from the speedlink depot and to blend it against the backscene.

The road curves round and goes "off" to the fiddle yard though being viewed from inner I am not at this stage going to put up a backscene on the inside if that makes sense??

I am going to have new style railings and walls to add a bit of a difference to the brown weathered retaining walls, and I will still probably put some kind of bus depot/yard here but with a building to a smaller scale than my original mock up.

Also took some time to run some trains round as well.

So, the corner was cleared and work has begun on some railings as well but these will need to be "mortared" and weathered before planting.

And of course the trains. Rumour has it the motive power for a Summer Sunday Merrymaker special starting officially from Acton Green has arrived and is laid up on the yard.

I managed to weather and plant the new walls and railings above the second scenic break yesterday as well as add some scrub the other side of the wall.

Also had a bonus running session earlier this evening whilst I contemplated my next move regarding construction of the underground station. But I think I will put that thought aside until I have finished the last corner.

Hopefully the photo's of everything will upload correctly tonight as I seem to be having random issues with image orientation or them just dropping to the end of the text !

Been fed up of looking at a shiny Vanguard. So out with the paintbrush and sponge tonight.

That's better (I think anyway..)

Can't beat LL, Black roof, Red Beam and shedloads of dirt all over

This weekend has mostly been trying to do up old coaching stock with varying results.

Mainly old Airfix Mk2D FO's. Here's how it has gone so far:--

Trying to hand paint the white lining - BAD !

Weathering - BAD !

Renumbering - OK so far

Weathering and painting an old Hornby Mk1 buffet - Think I overdid it.

Weathering and renumbering an old Mk1 BSK - gone OK, renumbered to W35074 from the original Lima W 3 5 1 9 8 (spaces left for effect for those who know)

So instead of putting any close ups until some fixes are made, here is 45103 working some vans. She still needs re-chipping as still only runs in "reverse"

The signal on the down main has gone out as well though the panel is lit, so I hope its only the common return from the signal although this does seem connected at first browse without me poking round all the spaghetti.

post-5142-0-02076200-1501430639_thumb.jpg

And in the bay in the background you can just see 4x Mk2D FO that have had work done. The aim was to make up a "downgrade" rake for odd workings to run and this will still happen.

Hi Stu,

The latest pics are great, the layout has really come together well. Nice to see a Peak getting some work on the vans.

I painted the white lines on my Airfix MK2s it was a real pain, I used a bow pen. once you get it working well it's not to bad. There were some FOs that were de classified to SOs I have done one I just painted out the yellow band and renumbered it.

Cheers Peter.

Great work.

I'd love to see a full length HST thrash through your station !

Cheers Rob. Unfortunately the fiddle yard won't quite take a full length HST but maybe one day I will run a 7 car set for the hell of it. Just need 2 more Mk3's though!

I am trying to remember if these would have been in my timeframe or not. circa 1985-88 or just a bit after?

Back to work unfortunately but managed to do a little bit this weekend and give myself some more crazy ideas.

Anyway - non pictured updates include adding some view blockers/backscene around the scenic breaks, just to make them easier on the eye and distract from what leaves the fiddle yard.

Also work undertaken recently includes some Metcalfe terraced houses (not yet finished or planted) in the final corner

London Transport have pulled their finger out and begun doing some digging under Acton Green..

Though that is all it will be at the moment.

Will post some more underground updates in the coming months. For now it will be a diorama due to lack of stock (and under layout space) but provision is there for an automated shuttle unit in the future.

Cheers,

Stu

Made some better roofs for the anglicised Hornby canopies at platform level recently.

Today they have been positioned and stuck down.

Quite happy with the results , the eye is less drawn to the "plasticky" nature of what was there before.

Underground track has been laid on to the pit sides. I decided too lay the track as normal then use snips to clip out the sleepers from the centre, but leaving the odd one in for spacing to avoid gauge issues. Seems Ok so far but nothing worth photographing.

Some pics of canopies though below

Cheers

Stu

Not much work on the layout this weekend. Managed to start making some GWR seating benches from the 4Track kits and they look pretty good.

Mainly working on the Underground diorama. Using 3/16 Balsa wood for supports for the central third rail. Have mounted the 4th rail on to white discs made by slicing a plastic cotton bud. As well as painting rail sides in matt black. All very laborious but slowly slowly..

More Underground work today. Track laying and weathering complete for the station.

Platform base constructed.

Old Hard drive cable butchered and stuck to platform sides to simulate cabling

Balsa used as a base for locations of the platform walls.

Pics not very exciting but it gives you an idea of progress.

Cheers

A bit more Underground today but likely to be the last bit of modelling for a week or two due to work.

Decided to go for a sort of 80s refurb look to the station. Pics look harsh as they are at Hi-res and under good lights but when the underground sits under the layout will be LED lit and covered.

I am attempting to create a 2 piece station - a lower half with track and walls, then a second piece which will arch over and hold the lights.

Couldn't resist getting the printer out and experimenting with the look which I'm quite happy with so far.

A couple of pics..

So I will be finishing off some details later hopefully like tidying the platform edge and painting a white line.

Cheers

That looks really nice.

What would really set it off is one of those choc machines where you put your money in and pull out a drawer with the goodies....

I remember them well from the period ...

And do you remember how they came out in hot summer weather?

Luckily a planned work event over the weekend failed to materialise meaning I have been home and had some time today to work on the layout.

My brain is now getting quite frazzled with anything to do with the 1980s and the London Underground during this period.

The printer has been working overtime printing signs, posters, floor and wall tiles etc.

I wont be finalising the tunnel ends until I actually have a piece of stock to confirm gauging requirements but I might embellish what I have as a static display until such time stock is purchased.

As usual a few pics - all tube today again.

Cheers

Stu

Stu,

What a fantastic job you've done on the underground station and the layout generally. I especially like the tile floor effect. All you need is a bit of grime...

Keep up the momentum!

Cheers

Phase 1 of the underground station is almost completed. Just some station furtniture to be added. I started making a base of escalators which won't really be seen but as I had an exit/entrance at platform end they make a nice break to the scene and will be just about visible when the station is properly lit.

I added an electrical cabinet and used more HDD ribbon cable to simulate the tangle of electrical cables often seen running at ceiling level on the tube.

Also printed a lot more posters and maps to add to the walls of the station. Next phase will be to begin the "roof" section with LED lighting.

Took 1 picture earlier in daylight, then a couple under the layout tonight.

The final one shows how it sits under the Mainline station.

Cheers

Stu
