	Running my Falcon, Zimo MS450R decoder, this afternoon, when I had a short on the layout, caused by running another loco into an unset point. Upon restarting, the sound was muted and sounded like there was interference. I tried a reset and now I have no sound, but otherwise the loco runs and lighting works. The loco that caused the fault is similarly fitted and is fine. I have dropped John Gymer at Youchoos an email, but can't really expect a reply until Tuesday and I'm off to Italy on Monday. Any suggestion here on what to do?

	I have purchased a Bachmann Class 419 MLV and want to get a sound decoder fitted. The only ones available seem to be the Legomanbiffo range so I need to choose a speaker option. Option 15 is the twin bass speaker set up, does this fit into the Bachmann model does anybody know please?

	Evening all. I wonder if any of you good fellows can shed any light on a problem I have. The problem is this:- Zimo MS500 fitted into a Planet Industrials Victory, CV 267 set to value 255 gives a 'chuff rate' of seven per wheel revolution. I have tried altering CV 354 to 0 and 1, done a hard reset etc and all to no avail. This same rate occurs on two different sound projects- namely Paul Chetter's Peckett and Locoman 8f. Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

	Afternoon all
</p>

<p>
	I’ve managed to get all the functions working on the Hornby Deltic using Accurascale Class 55 sound file. Some of this was trial and error to which aux would work. Roads and Rail put up on his Facebook page what aux and cv do on the model. Like I say some of this I had to guess. <br />

</p>

<p>
	<img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="2350900" data-ratio="75.00" width="1500" alt="IMG_1033.jpeg.cc3202c8d85397e9f514eabe59ff4295.jpeg" data-src="//media-eu.invisioncic.com/y320084/monthly_2026_03/IMG_1033.jpeg.cc3202c8d85397e9f514eabe59ff4295.jpeg" src="https://www.rmweb.co.uk/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	if you follow the function mapping copy this down. <br />

</p>

<p>
	I’ve now managed to get the fans working using aux 3 and 4, I need to tell the decoder what to do
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	the output mode I’ve change to Ventilator and change the required rate to get it to work, also please remember to adjust the screw on the PCB as these where off. I would like to get the fans to be automatic ie when it been running for a long time the fan engage and when it sit idling and the coolant system has cooled down the fans turn off. Would like some help with this. <br />

</p>

<p>
	the Mars light work in both Direction, as do cab instrument panel, cab lighting, engine room lights.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I’d like to get the cab light to turn off as soon when the locomotive moves. <br />
	 I want to get the horns to work just on one function a high and low tone as I want F2 to become the brake. <br />

</p>

<p>
	the next part I want to get is the loading of the engine, recently I’ve watch D9000 coming out of Euston, the acceleration at the station was very Quick with a loading train. Grant you can’t get it like the real thing but getting it close will do.

It may get a little long-winded but it seems to me that rather than having everyone posting the videos in their own separate threads it would be a sort of repository where anyone looking to buy the Howes / SWD / Olivias / etc. or Bachmann / Hornby factory-fitted sound decoders can look and listen to help make up their minds before parting with their hard-earned dollar-pounds. (Of course, there may also be US and European sounds here as well but I am not qualified or experienced enough to comment on those myself.</p>

	I have installed today a Econami 21 Pin Diesel Sound decoder into a Bachmann Class 101 DMU, using a Zimo LS40x20x9 speaker in its own 3D enclosure rated at 8 ohms.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Having completed the installation, there appeared to be a clicking noise coming from the speaking, which varies between one and three clicks approximately every 7-9 seconds when the sound is on.  It does not happen when the sound is muted.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	At first, I assumed I must have damaged or have a bad speaker, and removed this one and replaced with another new one, but with exactly the same results.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	My first thought was that possibly I had damaged the speaker when soldering the wires to it, but I have installed many of these with TTS decoders in the past always without problems.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Could it be a faulty decoder?  I bought it around 5 years ago (new) from an exhibition and so unable to return it.

<p>
	Any ideas what I could try next to check?  Or has anyone else experienced this?

	60 quid for a ZIMO sound decoder? Yes, that's right; read on
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Something else I've been testing for a couple of months alongside my ZIMO KLUG  <a href="https://www.rmweb.co.uk/topic/197278-zimos-new-gizmo/#comment-6049795" rel="">https://www.rmweb.co.uk/topic/197278-zimos-new-gizmo/#comment-6049795</a>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I'm not sure if these are with your favourite ZIMO retailer yet, but if not they will be soon so I thought I'd give you a 'heads up'.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	ZIMO have released the FS family of sound enabled function decoders. They are fully compatible with  ZIMO's MS and MN decoder families and use the same firmware to ensure inter-operability.
</p>

<p>
	Sound quality can be up to 44kHz and 16 Bit, so these are serious hi-fi platforms.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The current range consists of FS850P22 (Plux interface) and FS850R (8 pin wiring harness) types. The wired decoder is £65 as they are more costly to produce. Each has 10  full power Function Outputs with up to 3 additional Logic Level FOs. They can be used on DCC or DC (or mfx, MM or AC) so as well as stand alone, they could be used to provide sound for DC models at much less cost than a full blown sound decoder operating on DC .
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	So what's the point of sound decoders which have no motor drive?
</p>

<p>
	I'm not going to be proscriptive here, but a couple of useful applications stand out immediately.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	1. Multiple units where only one motor is fitted, but sound should be available from each 'driving' end.
</p>

<p>
	2. Sound can be installed in non-powered vehicles to provide appropriate sounds part way along a train. Wagons, vans, brake vans and Ethel's etc.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	As well as providing sound they are fully fledged function decoders so operating lights, smoke units and servos is a breeze.
</p>

<p>
	What about equipping buildings and other trackside items that could be enhanced with sound?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I can think of a few more.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	What use could you see for them? Post your answers below and I'll see if they are possible.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Here are some photos of the decoders plus an MS450P22 for size comparison.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Get your thinking caps on.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I have some experience of these so I'll try to answer any queries arising.
</p>

	Evening all,
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I'm baffled by this problem and hope someone can help to fix it. I was going to post in the general DCC part as I'm sure the basic cause is the DCC system and not DCC sound as such, so here we go...
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I have discovered that two (so far) of my locomotives, when run on my new layout, will not respond to commands from F2 (brake) F3 (whistle) and F4 (whistle). I don't know about other functions as I haven't tried and rarely use them anyway.<br />
	<br />
	All the others that have run on the new layout work properly and respond to the above commands.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The new layout uses a Piko 55821 wireless system. The other layouts use Piko systems but these use cables to the handset and the engines that <u>do not</u> respond on the new layout <u>do</u> respond to the functions on the other layouts. Because of this I suspect that there is something about the wireless system that these two decoders will not work properly with. All decoders in all the locos are by Zimo. One loco that is suffering the problem has the exact same type (MS500) as others that work perfectly.

	I have recently acquired a Heljan O Gauge Class 37.4 third hand. It has a Zimo decoder fitted. The version comes up as 033 and CV 250 identifies as 227. This would seem to relate to model MX695-RevC. Can anyone please advise what characteristics are associated with that decoder as I can't find any reference to it? Is it a full function decoder or one with the reduced function capabilities? Secondly, there is a sound file installed but I have not been able to identify which one from any of the function configurations (although i accept that some may have been previously changed from the initial installation). Is there any way of identifying whose sound file it may be?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Many Thanks

	Hello everyone,
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I have purchased a suitable sound decoder to install in my EFE N Gauge Class 41.  Installing the decoder is no problem but I am wondering if anyone can provide advice on installing the speaker.  Space for a speaker is provided in the fuel tank.  The instructions that come with the model state: "There are wires provided to the location for the user to connect a speaker, when required."   However, I can't see any wires in the fuel tank space.  There are two wires (red and blue) that go down one side of the model from the PCB but these do not appear to be easily accessible from the fuel tank space.  I am uncertain whether the wires are actually going to the motor rather than being for the speaker, so I have been reluctant to play around with them.  I have attached a couple of photos of the PCB and fuel tank area of the model.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	With thanks,
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Bryan.

	I have a class 37 Bachmann 32-791 DS which runs very quiet on full volume when comparing to my other sound loco's.
</p>

<p>
	Can this model be upgraded with a better speaker possibly making it louder?
</p>

<p>
	4ohm or 8ohm speaker?
</p>

<p>
	Or 100 ohm speaker?
</p>

	Does anybody know of any shops in Norfolk/Suffolk who will fit a sound decoder into an EFE Rail SR Booster for me please? It's Legomanbiffo one with two mini bass speakers.

<p>
	I've tried Coastal DCC but he doesn't fit units from other suppliers.
